MidCoast Road Rally 2010 - October 16th!

Things are coming along quite well on the MidCoast front... there is no doubt in our mind that, to celebrate our 5th Anniversary, we are putting together our best MidCoast yet!

Time Speed Distance (TSD) Rally

Remember, the competitive portion of MidCoast is quite fun and can get pretty intense! TSD rallies are a competitive driving event that date back to the dawn of the motorcar. And even the most virgin of competitors can have a real fun time with this! Never done anything like this? Cool--just pay attention at the team meeting

Get siged up now! The Fee goes up to $125 as we get closer to the date. Entry is only $100 per team until Sunday night the 25th . Lunch is included and so is coffee and donuts at breakfast. We cap out at 150 teams and we are nearing that!

ROUTE

Of course, if you know us at all, you know we don't tell secrets! But this route is sure to go down in history! We will be taking over an entire river town for lunch--and we're excited about it. What's even more fun? The TOWN is excited about it! Pork loin sandwiches, homemade potato salad and beans, oh my! Unless we found you absolutely offensive during the morning rally legs. Then bring your fishing pole--we may make you catch your own food out of the river. Seriously.

What else can you expect? This year's rally will traverse 4 counties, 18 towns, and 250+ miles. About 1.6 million turns and curves (yes, that can be done in Iowa). Our rally checkpoints will be vast, and we will have more secret checkpoints than ever!

2010 MIDCOAST AWARDS (In other words, start planning now.)

Time Speed Distance (TSD) First, Second and Third Prize

The FUN FUN FUN Award (Organizer’s Sportsmanship Award)

Pink Panther Award (People’s Choice, Best Costume)

Best Team Theme Award (People’s Choice)

Oldest Car

Team Furthest Traveled

The “I Got Screwed” Award (Organizer’s Choice)

EQUIPMENT

We will be using more technology than ever this year. We will have radio channels dedicated to media/organizer traffic (listen to find out where media, photographers, or the organizers are throughout the day) as well as a dedicated channel for the teams--primarily so you can figure out how to trick each other.

Just about any 2-way radios will work--you can go out and spend $10 or hundreds of dollars--you tend to get what you pay for when it comes to these little doodads. But we've had pretty decent experience with the radios at the following link:

Also, if you have a smart phone or an iPad or other technology that supports it, we recommend you download and set up your Trapster account. More to come on this later, but the better you know this app, the more fun it will be for you. We'll spend some time at the MidCoast team meeting previous to the rally to get everyone up to speed on this app.

And just to be clear--hand held portable urinals, though recommended, won't be needed for this year's rally...

THIRD THURSDAYS

Make sure you put the last 2 cruise-ins of the year on your calendar--the Third Thursday of September and the Third Thursday of October! We congregate at Saint's in West Des Moines (50th & EP True) and Marc always takes care of us! Rain or shine, we're always there. Look for new rally schwag for your purchasing pleasure.

SPEAKING OF RALLY SCHWAG... VINYL FOR YOUR RALLY JALOPY

We're putting together vinyl packages for your rally enjoyment--and we really hope to have them available for you by next Thursday night's cruise in. Vinyl ain't cheap, but we're working with a local company to do it as cheap as possible, and to pass those savings on to you.... we're thinking enough vinyl to make your jalopy look pretty cool will be in the $30 range. If you have a Festiva, you may be able to talk sweet and buy 1/2 of our vinyl package. A '65 Lincoln Continental--you'll need to buy 4.

We're finalizing our MidCoast flyers and are excited to get those out into your hands soon... put them up at your workplace, hang it over your kid's art on the refrigerator at home, and mass mail your favorite 500 friends and family. This year is going to be GREAT!

Our 100% volunteer leadership does this for 3 reasons--to make Iowa a better place, to give you a fantastic event that is unrivaled throughout the nation, and to give $$ back to charity. That is the Pit Crew's motivation. And their vision is a fantastic and safe 2010 MidCoast with over 150 teams... We are well on our way to hit those numbers. With your help, we may simply blow through those goals! Thanks for your support and see you over the next 6 weeks!
