Moving from Florida to Missouri. What do I need to know?

So I'll be driving the Evo 1300 miles from Tampa to Kansas City next week. I've never lived in a cold climate before and I am trying to think of what I should expect.

I currently use 10w30 Amsoil ATM (which has a pour point of -56 degrees) and 50/50 coolant water mix in the radiator. Transfer case, rear diff, and transmission are all Amsoil gear oils as well.

If I can get away with it, I'd prefer to continue using my Hankook RS2's instead of shelling out cash for blizzaks or any other snow tire.

Is there anything else I'm missing? Does windshield wiper fluid freeze?

The 50-50 mix of coolant will do you just fine. The oil will also be fine. I have to ask, what is making you move to KC? I actually moved there from NY for a year or so. I was working at Jay Wolfe Acura out on State Line Road. I ended up coming back to NY though. It's not a bad town, there's lots of things to do. If you have any questions feel free to pm me.

I live in KC. You are going to need snow tires, or at least all seasons. The winters are hit and miss. Some years we get very little snow, and you might get some warm days up to the first couple weeks of January. Other years we get tons of snow. Last year was one of the year with tons of snow. I actually enjoyed it, but some hate it. From January to about St Patricks day is normally full on winter cold. We get the full effect of every season, spring, summer, autumn, fall, winter... It's one of things I enjoy most about this part of the country.

I don't know what FL is like related to emissions laws. As long as you have a front plate on your car anything else you want to do is fine. MO does not do emissions tests and if you get pulled over it's not a concern.

Where are you moving to?

Be prepared for rain one day, snow storm the next, and beautiful the next. Some of our best snows have been in March.

As far as shops go, there's not too much to choose from. I found a decent one in KC, but that's about it. AMS is about a 5 hour drive.

Welcome to paradise.

LOL at some of the comments.

On a good note, expect about 20whp+ when you go from 85 degree weather to 55 degree weather.

On a positive note, if you're a drag racing fan, KCIR is a great track. Real lax rules as far as tech goes and it's not overly crowded. Its not actually in KC, its on the outskirts near Independence, MO. E85 is also readily available.

Insurance definitely went down. My progressive insurance wasn't too bad to start with. It went from $116 to $85 per month.

Damn thats a bummer on the snow tires. Definitely don't feel like spending anymore money ... maybe I can find some for cheap somewhere? Florida doesn't have emissions, so its nice that Missouri doesn't either, I was kinda wondering about that.

I will be working in Leawood, Kansas and commuting 20 minutes or so from Kansas City. Not sure where I'll be living yet or how to describe the area.
