Custom street Tune
Custom street Tune
Looking for someone that can do a custom street tune for my Evo in the Chicago area. Don't mind driving a couple hours if necessary. I would like to use the Cobb AP if I can. If not, it's not a deal breaker. Just prefer not to have wasted the $300. Unless of course, I can save the custom tune to the AP and switch back and forth. Still learning how all this works.
Basically, the OTS tunes on the Cobb AP are not doing what I had hoped. I can't get above 19 PSI boost or break the 300 WHP line, or even 290 for that matter.
No major mods yet except what is in the signature. I did get the exhaust installed today. Custom cat back so far. Was planning on doing the test pipe tomorrow but that has been put on hold. The shop I went to for the custom work would not remove the cat and install the test pipe. The test pipe is 3". The exhaust I wanted installed is also 3". So basically, they cut off the exhaust after the flange and welded the 3" pipe on to the stock pipe so I could drive the car. Later on I will cut out the cat pipe and the weld. Weld on a flange and install the test pipe. Hope this all makes sense.
Anyway, back to my original question. Looking for a tuner if there is one still around. Recommendations or suggestions are always welcome.
Thanks,

Thanks for the input, but I was looking for an etune. Not interested in going to a local shop. I would even take a drive out to see someone that does it with a laptop in their back yard. Not interested in paying the fees that the shops charge.
Thanks though.
Thanks though.
I'd recommend getting a custom tune through a shop (AMS or Boostin) for a ~$500 vs. someone you don't even know tinkering with your $30k+ car. You'll get an actual baseline dyno, inspection, tuning by an experienced professional, and a final dyno. With the AP, you could even have other maps tuned and stored (i.e. E85) for use later.
What recourse do you have if John Doe tunes your car with his 'laptop in his backyard' and you end up with a blown motor?
Read MTevo05's thread on needing a tune from an ECU that had been tampered with right below yours...

Thank you very much for the input. I do understand and appreciate your concern. However, I mispoke. I don't intend on letting Johnny nobody tune my car in his back yard. That was a mistake on my part for letting everyone believe I was that careless.
What I meant was, there are some very reputable tuners out there that are not affiliated with any shop. I can think of 2 off hand that do very good experienced work. One of which used to work for one of these shops if I am not mistaken. They have loads of experience and also reputation which is just as important. I fully intend on doing my due dilligence before I let anyone touch my car.
For my goals, now and in the future, I just think that an etune is what I would prefer. The cost is less and the quality (from what I have read so far) is on par. I also realize that no matter what course of action I take, if you let anyone change the factory setting of the ECU you run the risk of a blown motor. You mitigate that risk by taking precautions, looking at experience, reviewing feedback and results and overall, just being smart about it. But no matter what, you are still taking that chance.
Again, thanks for the input. I truly hope this post doesn't make me sound like a smart a$$. That was not my intention.
