April 4th Solo2 event impressions

First off the course was much tighter than the big course at the Learning Curve. For me at least, this was a big hinderance for two reasons. First, it was harder to stay on boost with the need for the slower speeds, I am sure more practice and a higher level of driving expertise could have compensated for this. Second there was much less traction, likely due to the cooler temperatures, and with the tighter course well...it sucked.

Don't get me wrong it was still a ton of fun, just different.

The event people kept things moving along pretty well again, even though there were far more drivers (170+???).

Alot of the intructors from the Curve were there, and they were still helping their students, very classy move to do that during an official competition.

The were 4 mis-driving highlights, maybe more, but I saw these myself.

1. An open wheeled thing got wild in a gated area leading to a (DNF) skid that headed toward the corner pit area.

2. An STI went very wide on the south 180 and went into the grass (DNF), I guess he missed doing rallys?!

3. A Probe came through the final gates hot and nearly skidded into an electrical/phone box that was protected by those cement filled steel tubes (DNF).

4. A MR2 Turbo was not as lucky through those same gates, and did in fact smash into the posts, the driver was unhurt (unconfirmed, just heard) and the car looked to be drivable (unconfirmed).

It was a LONG day, session 4 ended just after 6pm.

My best time was 49.???, they don't have it posted yet. The best EVO time was 47.???, I will edit this post with the time or post the link when the results are up.

Thanks and I hope to be there on the 18th.

Wow, that's some crazy stuff! Must have been a tight course location if people were losing it like that. I hate to hear about incidents like that because those mishaps could affect future use of the venue.
So how was the STi/Evo matchup this time around? Us Evo guys did seem to have some advantage last weekend, just curious.
Doesn't surprise me that the instructors were still helping out, I was very impressed with mine.
April 18th is the TSSCC Solo-2 event at Joliet raceway. www.tsscc.org I'll be there, can't wait!

On a scale of 1 to 10 the grip level was a 3.5 at best. I had my rear tires down to 36.5 psi and they still wouldn't roll over at all.

Hey guys,

If anyone is interested I can get you a deal on Renn-Art's Universal Camera Mount.

It usually sells for $159, but I talked to Emil, and he will sell them to us for $145 if I can get a couple people to but one.

I have a Hi-8 Camera, and it fits on the mount so you don't have to have a tiny digital in order to use it.

More info here

Let me know if your interested ASAP!

Question on the camera-

Even though a Hi-8 will fit, can the mount handle the weight/g's from a larger camera? Cuz I 'tend to bust sum moves dat will toss dat camizzle out da wizzle. Ok so it was a long day today sorry.

PS- It looks like the 18th is a go for me, I could pick the mount up and pay you then assuming it will work with the heavier cameras.\

Thanks, Jerry.

hey guys, hope u guys had fun i left early (around 3pm) but i cant believe u guys stayed til 6!! and nice pics bartek! i took 4 rolls but my camera is aging or something and like a third of the pics had a nice black bar on the top..but there are some pictures that came out nice. i didnt get the picture cd thing cause im an impatient guy and wanted the pics to show to my friends at school the next day lol. il try to get my scanner set up so i can upload the pics onto the computer.

man, that's unfortunate for the MR2 driver..which MR2 was it? the yellow new one or the red one with the license plate "EM ARR 2"?

and im actually working on something so i can mount the camera to the back seat where the child seat strap goes..I talked to Tristar Racing and he's done this with pretty good results. ill see what i can do with my 4 day weekend!

Yeah that would be fun whipping through a turn and that thing falling in your lap! In fact, I wonder if they would let you race with that in the car for safety reasons?
I would love to see an in car video of some of these runs though!
Can't wait for next weekend!

Ouch on those pictures Bob. I had 240+ pictures of my Hawaii trip last year where only the top 1/4 of each frame was exposed. The shutter was sticking.

I saw one camera in the grid, so if it passes tech they must allow it???

It was the dark red/maroon MR2.

Total entries 66
Trophies 18

Looks to me like you got one alright. Congratulations

Normally those would've been awarded right after the event, however, with the computer crash and the results being unavailable, the trophy presentation didn't take place. I'm not sure if Rick contacted trophy finishers yet, if not, i'm sure he will.
