California Speedway Road Course
California Speedway Road Course
I am doing the redline event March 4th/5th at California Speedway road course for the first time. I am a total noob when it comes to tracks.
I was wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions.
How does this track compare to the big course at Willow Springs (especially speedwise)? I've only been to willow springs once and Streets of Willow once.
I have a IX, totally stock with street tires. suggested PSI? I've got a set of Bridgestone S03's and a set of stock advans.
Finally, is anyone aware of a "best driving lines" map or maybe "best noobie lines" map for this course or any course that would be cool, although I've never found anything like that.
ANyways, if anyone has any knowledge I'd like to thank them in advance.

I will be there, unless it rains. The infield road course at Calif. Speedway, which is what we are running (we are not running the much faster ROVAL), is faster than Streets of Willow, but slower than the big track at Willow Springs.
Redline Track Events has instructors for newbies. You should run in the beginner group and get an instructor, since you have never been to this track and have only a couple of track days elswhere under you belt. Instruction is the best way to learn the racing line at a new track. I think this track is pretty intuitive, but that's just me. In my experience, a track map doesn't mean anything until you have actually driven the course.
As for tire pressures, I suggest you seek out other EVO drivers at the event and see what they are doing with that.

ah sounds good, good luck on the track for your first time. I am doing the redline time attack thing at mid-ohio (march 31st - april 2nd) on saturday and sunday, I cant wait! It seems so long ago since I have been at the track, this winter has taken.. is taking forever !
Schweet Richard, thx for the info. I definitely am a newbie and I'm somewhat relieved that the track is slower than the big track at willow. I can't imaginge going that fast without a welded rollcage and harness.
Good luck to you Andrew, springs just around the corner...

I'll actually be taking my SR20DET powered 260Z to this event, although its in full race trim so we probably won't end up in the same group, I'd be happy to give you some pointers and use of pyrometer/airtank for air pressure adjustments.
I'll be leaving from West LA, let me know if you want to rendezvous!
The AWD classes of the Time Attack on Sunday are turning into an EVO shootout. Kent Jordan will be there in his Muellerized EVO, WORKS is sending a car and professional driver, etc.
