Light Weight Flywheel ??

Time for a clutch for the Red car.

Thinking about doing a light weight flywheel at the same time. What is the weight of the stock flywheel? I'm trying to determine if it's worth it.

Is there any problem with clutch or flywheel rattle on Evo's with light weight flywheels? My previous vehicle (note my screen name) rattled with the clutch out while it was in neutral after a light weight flywheel install.

My weekend activity is autocross where quick acceleration between corners is important. Boost will be increased shortly to help corner to corner performance.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I believe the stocker is about 14 lbs. The ACT Prolite is about 10 lbs. Put one with their HD clutch in the car over the winter. I'm very happy with it so far.

I think that the lighter flywheels with less material are more likely to warp. Don't know if that matters to you or not.

Just did the ACT prolite and HD streetdisk. Best clutch combo I've owned. Driveability is no different than stock. Revs pick up very quickly engagement is smooth and easily controlable.

I have a Road Race flywheel (10lbs) and it makes a BIG difference from the stock (14.4lb) flywheel, especially in 1st and 2nd gear.

Hey guys, thanks for all the help. Looks like it's really worth it.

I'll order a Fidenza LW flywheel today.

Less rotational mass essentially increases the amount of torque transmitted through the driveline. This is increased exponentially with lower gearing, i.e. first gear acts like a giant power adder, second gear acts as a good power adder, third gear is noticeable but not substantial, and 4th and 5th gear are usually about the same. I also find that it is easier to launch the car consistently with a lighter flywheel - but that's my personal preference.

Sport Compact Car or Super Street or ??? had an article in their tech section on this last year.

very cool, a lot of people said to keep the stock one for some resone, dont knew what tho, maybe warping or stress on driveline parts,

No problem. I have over 100 launches on a stock clutch and lightweight flywheel in SCCA Solo events last year with Hoosier A3S05 285/30-18 tires.
