Advans and Mud don't mix (SCCA Rally-X) With Pics!

Did my first SCCA Rally-Cross last weekend. On pavement i was the fastest car easy, closest was a stock STi, but on mud i got the slowest overall. Almost tied with a non-turbo subie legacy. After the first run my tread was filled with mud and it was like running on drag slicks. Even with the drifting i was about the only one to not hit a cone. Deffinitely recommend it to anyone who has Rally-X's in their area. Its different than regular auto-X's being theirs not as many classes, basically just Stock or Modified, and you get alot more runs. But i also recommend not wasting your time on the stock tires. Winter tires would be great but even cheap tires with alot of tread on them would be better than the stockers. Big power with no grip is worthless.

Yeah, I just posted last week about my first rally-x, and my Falken Azeni RT615s were pretty useless on the dirt. Interestingly, though, my rally-x was on much different terrain with much different layouts. We had straight up desert style dirt and rock mix with very tight turns. I think I'd prefer the wider more open grass/mud layout, but my street tires wouldn't be any better.

Excellent so far. Comparable handling to the Advans for half the price and an extra bit of width (255 vs 235) for harder launches.

Duh - performance street tire does NOT perform well in dirt (or snow or ice or any-non tarmac setting)

Wow thanks, you're a quick one. Way to be annoying and state the obvious

Theres a few more events including a national event in August but i'm not sure the damage to the car is worth it. It was fun as hell but i might be sticking to the pavement. Anyone whos seen this thread Evo RS With interior stripped knows i don't care about looks but there's alot of tiny scratches even with mudflaps.

[edited out sarcastic remark back]

I have seen an Evo RallyCross and end up with a bent frame from the stress. I also used to spend a lot of time at TAD Motorsports (who built many rally Evo's) and saw the abuse they took.
