best coilovers for the money
If you want budget entry-level just to improve the ride height, get some decent handling, and not screw up anything, go with the Megans for $800 or so.
If you want the most affordable custom-built setup that will beat most things on the track if you can drive it, then consider the PIC TSOs. After that, you can get some great setups from Robispec or Mueller.
PS. Avoid those Teins like the plague.

it depends on what your goal is with the car but megans seem to work for most non-track ******

I have MANY people happier with the Megans than they were with other sets closer to $2k... and at under $1k with an excellent reliability record, how can you go wrong at that price point?
Hope Jeff does not mind, but here is his review, and he tracks the STREET set no less! https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=265745

+ a billion
Personally, I wouldnt waste money on entry level coilovers. Go with something that actually improves handling and can be used to its advantage. Even just a $1000 is alot to be shelling out for coilovers when you could bump that up a couple hundred and pick up some JIC's or KW's. Thats just me though.

Obviously bang for the buck is somewhat subjective but in my opinion, the KW Variant 3 is the best coilover out there for the money. They do cost a bit more than some of the entry level coilovers but you are getting separate bump and rebound adjustment, full stainless steel body, and a lifetime warrantee against defects. The build quality and valving on these is top notch, comparable to units that cost twice as much. And for a slight increase in price you have the ability to order them with custom spring rates. So no they aren't "cheap" per se, but in terms of what you are getting for the amount you spend they are tough to beat.
