Swapping Mufflers

Hey guys, I currently have a Vibrant Performance muffler on my lancer. I'm thinking about swapping it out for a Greddy or HKS, but my current one is welded on so I don't know if it will make a difference when I change it. I heard that the metal will become weak if you weld it on, and the next time I want to have it made to fit a bolt-on muffler. Does anyone have any info that'll help me out

First of all, do you have a legitimate motive for switching? What is it about Greddy or HKS that's going to make it worth the effort?

Second, welding and re-welding is fine as long as you don't keep using the same seam over and over again...a.k.a - the pipe would have to be cut. If you want to make it a bolt on (which might be a good idea if you're changing exhaust systems often), find a salvaged 08 Lancer or a car with the same pipe diameter, cut off the flange and slap it on yours.

There's also generic flanges sold at the part stores.

PS - one thread, please. I'm closing this and leaving the one in Lancer General open.
