Wide band logging questions

My tactrix is in the mail, i will be picking up pcmscan in the short term (evoscan later on perhaps) and looking to pick up a wide band as well. I've got some questions that i was hoping you folks could help me out with:

#1
It seems that all of the existing widebands log out to the pc via a serial cable. My small laptop only contains usb ports. I could get a serial --> usb port converter but they are a pain in the butt to work with and i hear they may cause dropped connections during logging. I know from past experience when i've used the serial to usb connectors to connect to Solaris ILOM ports or Cisco mgmt ports, its caused me issues. So , anyone know if theres anything out there or am i just gonna have to suck it up?

#2
Whats the difference between the zeitronix and say the aem wideband? I would like to have an in car afr guage, but my primary concern is ease of logging out to my pc for tuning via ecuflash. Is it that the AEM can be wired to serial, but the Zt comes pre-wired and can also be sent to the ECU so it can be then logged out to through the tactrix?

Thanks for any replies.

Mods: i think/hope this is the right section to post this in, if not, move it please!

Zeitronix ZT2 is FAR more advanced than the latter.

Out of the box it comes complete with its OWN proprietary software able to datalog AFR, Lambda, RPMs, TPS, AUX 0-5v, has an ability to export to excel and is also able compatible with Evoscan with it's linear output.

It also is a modular unit with additional sensors you can upgrade as you go such as the Kavlico precision medical grade map sensors and K thermocouple low mass, high speed egt. ZAVT-1 programmable simple and combination alarm box and safeguard option, its endless.

Here is an example of a datalog from our own 2008 Evo X GSR.

If you are interested, we are the Master Distributor for Zeitronix and we can send one out to you.

Send us a PM.

A good USB/serial adapter does not drop connections and works reliably. Our ZDL logging software is designed to work with USB adapters. We offer a good tested USB adapter. Most of the store brands work well. However avoid radioshack one.
