How do you know your fuel pump is maxed out?

What indication would you have that you're approaching the limit of your fuel pump? I'm staying with the stock pump with FPRed and cams, but want to know what warning signs to look for.

Thanks,
Ryan

your fuelling will go lean at the top of a WOT run usually and even if you increase it in the map, it wont richen up, be careful make sure your logging all the time as your mapping

Seems like a risky experiment for a 100$ mod, if that.

You can't tell much on the pump itself. You log the AFR + the Injector Duty Cycle/Injector Pulse Width. If you try and put more fuel into the map and you start to go lean and the IDC goes over 100% you're making out the fuel system.

I'm thinking with the red, you're going to want bigger injectors.

You have to buy a housing for the X I think and UR and maybe AMS are one of the only vendors selling them. Not super expensive, but not <$100 once a walbro is thrown into it.

Correct. It's about $600 total. Need an adapter (UR) + walbro + fuel filter kit (UR) + install. Not the end of the world, but I'm holding out for a double pumper setup. And yes, injectors are a must with the FPRed. I'm hoping to run 1000cc, if available, but 800cc are the standard.

I'm not doing the tune myself, so my question was more around whether I could experience a lean condition while driving, and what symptoms I'd see.

Thanks.

there'll be no obvious sympton until it's too late. Like goofyrin mentioned, you need concrete data and one best way to do that is from data logging. Common you got to pay to play.

Friend had an HTA 35R and thought it was a 255 but ended up being the stock fuel pump. He had lots of problems with his tune getting the fuel worked out. I would say get the 255 and use it. This is from someone that blew a motor and prob think some of it started with not having enough fuel one night. I want to get another 255 inline, just need to know how to wire it up.

If you have a fuel press gauge ..

You'll notice dropping fuel pressure and increasing injector duty cycles yet increasing AFRs ..

Thats the only way to be sure ..

Static IDC only indicates your injectors are maxed out .. doesn't say much about pump ..

yes this. Hook up a pressure gauge and watch it during a pull.

Get the fuel pump replaced if you are doing an upgraded turbo with cams, otherwise you will be limited at 20 psi of boost to avoid maxxing out the fuel pump and that's not the idea of a turbo upgrade!

There is also this from HB Speed that doesn't require aftermarket fuel filters:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ing-works.html

You can also use this guide if you buy some foam insulating wrap, fuel filter, 2 small hose clamps, and flex fuel hose with properly placed tie wraps it should stay put.

http://www.***************/forums/sh...=evo+fuel+pump

LOL what is the reasoning behind the blocking of other helpful install guides at other enthusiast sites?

People will have to search W W W , E V O X F O R U M S , C O M

The wiring harness plugs right into the Walbro 255lph HP fuel pump that everyone uses.

So yes in effect you can do it for $100-$200 easily.

I paid $150 for the UR adaptor, $150 for the UR filter, $100 for the pump, and am using Injector Dynamics 1000cc injectors on a PUMP GAS FP Red tune.

You're looking for BIG trouble by running a stock pump with cams and the Red. I just don't see how you could go through the trouble of a full turbo upgrade and cam install, and not throw a dinky pump into your tank... it just doesn't add up...
