Does anyone know how to fix/cause of my idle issue?

I have done a whole lot of web searching and took my X to the dealer about 3 times with no resolution to my concern. Once in a while when I start my X the rpms will freak out from 0-1000. It will surge like this about 2-3 times then shut off. I am not getting a code for this issue and when I restart the car the problem is gone.

The dealer said they updated my map on the ECU and relearn my ETC (electronic throttle control), but the issue has not gone away. Since they can not find the problem the dealer said they can not find the issue because of my aftermarket exhaust system. Since I do not want to waste my time putting the factory exhaust back on I am trying to fix this myself.

Okay what have I done to my car? I have installed a AMS high flow cat, HKS Hi-power exhaust, and Stage 2 map from Cobbtuning. Before someone say it is because of the stage 2 map I have had this issue when the car was 100%stock. I did the tune because someone said it might help.

Does anyone know how to fix this or what might be causing this problem? I am about to do the relearn of the ETC myself in a few minutes to see if it helps. I post the update later.

Thanks for the help.

Jose

*UPDATE* I just finish relearning the throttle control and it didn't work. Don't know what to do next.

Check your fuel trims and front lambda voltage with a scanner. If front lambda voltage is touching 1V and it hasn't gone loose on the bung or an exh gasket is leaking prepare to change it soon.Happened to me,changed lambda & problem fixed.

You just prove how new I am to this...lol. What is a lamda? Where is it? Could I use a multimeter to check the voltage?

Honolulu to Greece... The internets are amazing.

Anyway, if that doesn't work, why not spend the 15 minutes and undo your exhaust and put the stock one back on and turn the tune back to stock. It is under warranty you know... Make Mitsu pay to do the troubleshooting.

I took the vehicle to the dealer 3 times but since they noted that my car is modded I didn't preceed with the lemon law thing. That is why I am trying to find a fix to this problem.

you sure the stage 2 map is loaded correctly? try reflashing it again.

I installed the map correctly. I have the up to date beta firmware, manager, and map. Using V2 of the stock intake with turbo-back exhaust for 08 MR. Just checked for updates also in case.

Have you checked to see if your FPR vac hose popped off?

Try increasing your idle rpm to 950 (stock 700 rpm, I believe). My tuner did that on my last tune and I never had the bouncing rough idle ever since.

You are right the stock is 700 +/- 100rpms. Unfortunately there are no tuners in Honolulu to raise my idle rpms. I am all types of screwed over with this problem.

try to check the other end of this hose. you have to take off the engine cover for that.

If there's an open vacuum from the intake manifold, the car should be revving up by itself so my suggestion is, try to take off the spark plugs and check them. If they are caught with too much crap then brush & re-gab them and see if this will fix this problem.

I just finish checking that and the line is still connected. I didn't even think about the other end. Thanks

I'll check this after work tomorrow. Do you know the gap size for the evo?
