Stock cat bad?
Stock cat bad?
I went to muffler shop today to get my turbo xs hfc put on. And after the took the stock cat of the mechanic came straight to me and said this converter is beyond bad. Actually "Burnt" was the term he used. I don't get it, i havent had a tune or done anything to the engine or cat. But with 19k miles its burnt out, did i do something or does this happen alot?
just ruling out the "well he doesn't need it anymore so I will take it and sell to metal recyclers" theory
well the early 08 did run VERY rich, and that can cause early cat blockage.
when did you get the 08? and have you had the dealer TSB's done?

essentially Mitsubishi HQ telling dealers to apply a change to the car (whether mechanical/electrical or software)
the 08 GSR's had 4 different flashes 52680015 -> 52680017 -> 52680018 -> 52680020 to fix various problems.
if you are still on 15 or maybe even 17 your ECU is putting WAY WAY to much fuel into the engine.
my advice:
find someone (or tuner) on these forums that has a Openport20 cable, get them to download your ROM and work out which version you have.
if its pre 20, put the cat back to stock, take it to a dealership and tell them to fix the cat AND flash you to the most recent software on your ECU
