I need new street tyres...

... for an Evo 4.

I'm thinking it's a choice between Bridgestone S03s, Pirelli Pzero assemetricos (or perhaps Michelin Pilot Sports -expensive though)

What's the concensus? I'll be getting separate R-compound tyres for track days and autokhanas, so these will just be for street use.

Got Toyos at the moment and they kinda suck.

Thanks.

i am running S-03s right now and for road use they are OK. have not run the others so I have no basis for comparison.

S-03s are good. Some other brands worth considering: Dunlop Formula FM901, Falken Azenis, Yokohama AVS Sport. Tried all of those, all are ok. But I still recommend the Advans for street use. The Japanese-made tyres are better.

It will depend on the use you make of them.

I have used S-01, S-02, S-03 and I'm currently using PZero Assimetrico.

In consider S-03 a step back compared to S-02. They are good on the wet, but on dry hot tarmac they overheat badly.

I'm very happy with the PZero, but strangely, they seem to be getting better after a few hundred kilometers (at first they squealed a lot and grip was not good). I have not tried them on the wet yet. Well, only as a passenger in Scoobymike's car, and you can read what happened somewhere in this forum...

I don't think S-03s are available here yet in the size i want.

We don't get much rain here, so wet weather performance is not a high priority. I'd like some tyres that are reasonably quiet too (for a high performance tyre anyway).

From those choices it's definetely the P-Zeros and I agree, their grip increases with time. But what rallyman is talking about is normal with every tire, they'll grip more when they've been run in, after about 500kms. The P-Zeros will continue to increase though until the outer edge of the tire has melted together. There's a profile on that edge, but after hard driving it will melt over in to a "slick". That's when the tire has maximum grip in the dry, although it probably doesn't help wet grip.

Falken Azenis without a doubt---used by 90% of the top drivers in street tire classes in autox. They only have a small range of sizes though.

If i were to get a semislick instead, what sort of milage would i get from normal road usage? Would it be significantly less?

And how careful do you need to be when it's wet?

I think i might get some PZeros this time around, because i know they'll be a significant improvement over what i have now. Then maybe next time a can graduate to some semi slicks.

Appreciated your advice everyone.

What about some BF-Goodrich G-force T/A KD. If you can afford michelin pilot sports you can afford these... best tire for street use. BTW I have yet to drive on a goood firestone/bridgstone tire... In my experience they have been nothing but headaches.

BTW does anyone know what the largest tire size that will fit on the stock evo 7 rims???

I would say the new Yokohama ADVANs are the best for sport-street driving. Even the stock Advan in the Evo 7 is way better than other high-performance tyres out there.

I still like the Japanese made tyres compared to American or European made tyres.
