The arrival of evo in the US will be delayed as a result too. I guess.
Also the SST complexity is really worrisome. We should
expect problems in the first year at least with this transmission.

It look as most of the bugs are worked out and the transmission is fine making it seems to be a major hassle.

"its complexity has meant mass-producing the unit is proving more difficult than expected. "

30,000 lbs is a direct translation to over $62,000 USD. Ouch, that's pretty pricey for the guys in Europe. Geez.

they work for pounds not US dollars, which means they get paid twice as much

This is why I'll probably hold off getting the X the first year till they get the bugs worked out. Wont stop me from test driving one though.

Here, here. I would never buy a brand new design loaded with this much high tech in the first model year. I'm looking mostly likely at a 2010 car for my track toy, maybe not even until 2011.

In my dream world, the next article I will see is:

Mitsubishi throws in towel on problematic SST, 6-spd manual to be standard on MR models!

...and Evo enthusiasts lived happily ever after .

Guess Journalist have some merit i posted this a while ago in the oz forum .

Posted: Sat Oct 13, 2007 8:17 am Post subject: Problem with TC SST / Why 5 MT ?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reading the November 2007 Motor mag in Australia Journalist... David Morley pointed out a few potentially concerning issues and theorys with the EVO X .

With the TC SST He states :

"The only glitch i can see is a tendency for the gearbox to get hot and start short-shifting in deference to its oil temperature ( two cars did it to me and it wasnt a particularly hot day )

Should this be a concern for TC SST OWNERS ?..........what do you guys think ?

About the 5MT gearbox he says .

"Mitsubishis engineers reckon weight is the reason for the move from six back to five cogs , but the more cynical among us (me,for instance)......smell a different sort of rodent .

Think about it : if you have gone to the trouble of developing a whizz-bang new clutchless box ,you have to make sure that its quicker than a conventional manual right ?
So the best way to do that is to hobble the regular manual gearbox by spacing the gears further apart ."

Has Mitsubishi deliberately HOBBLED the manual in order to make the TC SST Faster ? What do you guys think ?

I think 5 gears are lighter than 6, and apparently also much stronger if Mitsu builds the 6 speed. 1-4 were practically identical in both transes, so we're only talking about 120mph+ performance, which isn't all that important in daily or even 1/4mile track driving. I personally don't understand the need for 6 spd close ratio transmissions when the torque curves on these cars are very flat.

Mitsu is facing a dilemma with SST. Making it
competitive with STI would risking running the SST hot and erratic.
Making it reliable and less aggressive would render it not competitive.
The mitsu gadgetry misery...

The article that I read at Leftlane News suggested that only the SST transmission would be delayed, not the actual Evolution itself. They say that until the SST is fixed, the 5-speed manual will be used.
