Ford Focus RS vs Rivals: Revisted

This issue has been debated before and I was unable to locate the previous thread because EVOM's search engine is still not working. That said, when the Focus RS came out abroad there was a lot of discussion and comparisons to potential rivals vis., EVOX and STI.
Recently AutoExpress (http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/carrevi...vs_rivals.html) made a comparo and concluded that the RS was the best of the three. However, after reading the basis for the choice I became a bit confused. Specifically, the EVOX which came in second was quicker and handled better than the Focus. In addition, they admitted that the RS had significant torque steer being FWD. Apparently the choice of the RS was based upon looks and lower purchase price.
Bottom line: I used to think AutoExpress was performance oriented; it has been so in the past. However, they now appear to be moving in the direction of a Consumer Reports approach rather than performance driving.

If they had compared to a base Evo X FQ300 (base model) which is 3000 GBP cheaper, the outcome probably would have been different.
