If the ECU was to be cracked, what would be the weakest point then? The clutch packs?

I'm just thinking down the road... I'd love more power, but a little worried about the SST.

I don't think you have to worry as much as you think unless you are going with a huge turbo or E85.

you will be fine making more power it just depends what you want. im running like 425whp on my stock tranny. it is detuned a lot but the tranny is still amazing because i never take it to the drag strip. im still deciding weather i should or not. i think the sst might have a little trouble with tq. but im sure at one point mr owners will be able to make what ever power they want and the only thing limiting us is money. oh and to add im running with a fp red with e85.

Sounds like a bad tune. First gear from a standstill I could understand (2 second delay is stilll alot for first gear). But second gear? That has never happened to me.

Stop relying on the transmission to shift correctly for you. If you want something done right, do it yourself. I've found that I have the most control in manual mode, and learning to drive it that way. I've figured out every little behavior in the transmission, and now I'm not surprised anymore by situations like this. Sometimes the tranny doesn't do a good job of guessing what gear is next

that is a really dangerous situation. I know the BMW m3 with the dual clutch experienced the same things when they first came out, and BMW said it was normal, blah blah... until the NHTSA got involved and they reprogrammed the trannies, which helped diminish these problems but not completly eliminate them. I would check with a knowledgeable mitsu dealer to see if they can flash your car with the new software the '10 MR comes with.

It sounds to me like your RPMS were low and had no boost and the 2 seconds is what it took with your foot in the floor in second gear to get into the boost range.

Recomendations:
If you know your going to be merging into moving traffice flick your driving mode into sport prior to merging, merg, switch to normal,

or

put it in manual.

Most slush box trannies lag when you step into the throttle, the normal mode is supposed to be the least agressive setting for the car meant for casual driving.

It sounds like you were not at a complete stop when merging with traffice so chances are you were decelerating prior to merging and the car was staying at low revs in second because the car won't switch to 1st unless you are going really slow.

I have a crazy merge every moring and i use my first suggestion and have no problems.

I have a theory, bear with me it's just a theory: The SST TCU can be easily confused by erratic throttle and brake applications, like sudden on off input, the TCU does not know whether to be prepared for an upshift or a down shift (remember the DCT is two separate 3 speed gear box's and it keeps 2 gears engaged simultaneously, depending on whether it thinks you are going to to accelerate or brake). If the TCU guesses wrong it takes extra time to disengage the pre-selected next gear, engage the proper next gear, and smoothly engage the clutch packs (especially slow in "normal" mode) all the while it electronically prevents the motor from producing power until the gearbox and clutch packs have completed this procedure. There is no way to completely prevent this without building a TCU that can actually think and perhaps read the drivers mind!

I drive in s-sport mode full manual 90% of the time and try to drive in straightforward manner; works for me

laggy wifi

I always shift into sport mode when deceleration or right before I know I want to accelerate hard when I'm not running in manual s-sport mode.

I don't understand when people say that they don't drag their car as if regular hard street running is not putting stress on the vehicle from hard acceleration. I don't race my vehicle but my own "sporty" style of driving definitely induces as quick as possible acceleration from the vehicle. Does that make sense to the reader? I had a difficult time formulating my thought but I hope people get it cause I read that statement in a lot of peoples posts. I can understand someone saying not road racing as the car is put under a lot of stress for a lengthy period of time.
