SST fluid change by dealer but no new filter..thoughts?
I recently passed the 48,000 km mark and definitely noticing the SST is misbehaving a bit. Here in the Vancouver area most dealerships were charging about $850 for new SST fluid and a new filter. I called one dealership that said they would put in new fluid for about $350 (or $550 to include transfer oil and a few other things). However, this would not include a new filter for the SST (the one person I talked to there said they don't change the filter ever which doesn't sound right to me). I've only had the car for about 8000 km so I don't know the full warranty history (no documents when I bought it off the dealership) but I'm assuming this is the first time the SST fluid has been changed. I'd think that if I'm following dealership instructions my warranty would remain intact if something happens but it worries me when I find a price that is $500 less than its closest competitor. Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated.
I change my SST filter every 7500 miles or two oil changes and the SST fluid every 15K or every 4 oil changes. The filters are 100 bucks plus labor.. you honestly do this yourself. The fluid is 300 bucks.. plus labor.. should cost no more than 350.

I would think that the filter would be the first thing to change after the first 5k or so after breakin, not changing the filter is like having a clogged artery.

I was told the exact same thing by the dealer when I had my SST fluid changed. Ultimately I ended up having an independent shop order and install the filter.
The steps to flush fresh fluid through the transmission (by shifting) and then draining is supposedly their way to "clean" the filter, from what I can tell.
I changed my filter after the 2nd SST fluid change at 28K miles. Filter was black as night and completely clogged. The SST shifts much better now.
The dealership's don't care, not there car its a must to change the filter anyone that says different knows nothing, would you just change the oil in the motor and not the filter? I bet you pull the filter its dirty a reason for flow restriction. That's why if you can service the car yourself you know what's going on.
Ive done some research on this, apparently canadian dealerships cannot order the SST filter at all so they are instructed to just change the fluid.
Your best bet is to order one from mitsubishiparts.net and either do the change your self with the filter or ask the dealer to do it and provide the part.
