Question Shift feel and Turbo function between Normal, Sport, S-Sport modes.

Has anyone really measured performance between these modes. I dont know if its just the noob in me as far as being new to the evo family. in the manual shift position my 2010 MR feels the same in normal and sport mode, but if i go into S-sport mode it seams to really slam (isn't this bad for the motor mounts) the gears.

Second, I seem to have a whine of some type if I slack on throttle. not sure quite what i'm hearing almost like the sound of someone whistling through a fan. its more present in the Sport and S-Sport modes.

No Problems that i'm aware of, just learning as I go.

Stock 2010 MR approaching 55k Miles.

whine is very normal. Change your sst fluid often. 30k maximum intervals. I hear stories all the time from Kozmic that SST's that never change fluid usually fall apart around the 50-70k mark. That's a 6000 dollar mistake.

I noticed the faint whistling sound only happens in SS, I never hear it in Sport or normal.

It's definetly the turbo spooling very lightly.

Why only in SS??

its not the turbo, its your gearing from the straight-ish cut gears. Our gears are more straight cut vs the 5 speed due to more positive shifts. In s-sport the clutches don't slip in part throttle application, meaning they're engaged 100%. In normal and sport, they slip a little that low, causing the gear not to be fully engaged. This makes the tq on the gear much less, providing much less noise.

It is not unusual to experience faster & crispier shifts when you operate in sport mode. They often try to engage the clutch at a faster rate as well as bring the engine trq back to where it is supposed to be prior to the shift to allow for a smoother transition between the ratios.
