Idiotic Newbie Question

Hopefully posting in the right place; I figured those that know would be in this area.

So, just bought a 2014 MR, traded in my moderately built 1996 Impala SS. Hated to let it go but after seven years, it was time. Anyway, I have what I'm sure is a stupid question to be followed by many more in the future. I've read through the manual but I'd like to know from those who know.

Does it matter what driving mode the SST is in if I'm manually shifting? "Normal", "Sport", and "S-Sport" just change the aggressiveness of the shift points in automatic and nothing else correct?

I plan on throwing every extra penny into this car after awhile, don't know if I can wait until the warranty is up or not. I'll probably do everything I can that both makes sense and doesn't void the warranty in the short term.

Thanks in advance, if anyone is in the Milwaukee area and needs an extra hand working on their car let me know.

I am not all that familiar with the SST, but I think the different modes just change the shifting points. So I guess you would be ok in any mode however for DD, S-Sport might be shifting to high in the rpm's for your liking. Might also get worst mpg's.

As for mods, depending on your dealership, almost any mod may void your warranty. Obviously they shouldn't void it depending on the issue you are having. But if you want to be 100% safe on your warrant, I would only do a cbe and drop in filter. Then I would also take those off before going in for warranty work.

It is an argued topic but even getting a Cobb ap and flashing to one of their tunes may even void your warranty as some people say that the dealer can in fact read the ecu and tell if it has ever been flashed.

The various modes chance the shift points and the disc clamping force. Driving around on the street in S-Sport will put excessive wear on your transmission and is not advised.

I made a thread recently, asking if there were any disadvantages to using S-Sport in manual mode all the time. The consensus was that in S-Sport, it shifts much quicker, making for little to no clutch slip. So wouldnt that actually be better for the trans?

I just hate the slip, and shift lag that you get when in the other modes. S-Sport feels much more precise. Again, Im always in manual mode.

The normal, sport, and s-sport modes in automatic change when the car shifts and how fast the car shifts. While in manual mode, the different modes just change how fast the car shifts. I basically either drive auto-normal or manual sport/s-sport. It's annoying driving the car in sport and s-sport auto on the streets.
