Hey man,

I'll give you a hand.

What's your current setup? Are you all stock? Post a mod list please.

I like to use AMSOIL. In the stock motor, 5W-20 or 10W-30 (depending on your needs) as seen here:

http://www.amsoil.com/catalog.aspx?code=ALMQT-EA
http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/atm.aspx

Built motor, I use AMSOIL ARO 20W-50:

The reason I use these over Mobil One, is because these oils have a higher zinc and phosphorus content or ZDDP. This helps protect the engine and turbo against wear. Mobil One recently removed a lot of the ZDDP due to environmental concerns (mainly it could/would clog CAT's) and therefore doesn't protect critical components as well as it used to.

I became a preferred AMSOIL customer (which is $20 USD a year) and you get pretty good discounts on their oil from their website.

What's wrong with your idle? Do you have aftermarket cams installed? Is the car tuned?

That should get you started.

not trying to be a jerk, but the reason no one helps you is because those questions have been asked many, many times. go to the search bar up top and click search and then click advance search. after, instead of search entire post, select search titles only to make it easier for you.

+1

Binky's car is on the other end of the power spectrum so he obviously uses higher grade oil for a reason. I don't know about your car but I have full bolt-ons and run Mobil 1 10w-30.

106k Miles, 50k@ 350awhp oil changed ever 5k. Car runs like new.

Can't go wrong with amsoil, but I stick to Mobil 1 since I have been using it since day 1.

Hey thanks for that, heres my setup:

Car:
1982 Mitsubitshi Starion GSR III

Engine
'82 Starion wide-block
Evo 1 Dohc head conversion
Evo front plate
Cut/swap intake manifold
VR4 Evo 0 throttle body
T04e Turbo
38mm external wastegate
Evo 7 injectors
Evo 1 AFM
Rising rate ADJ fuel reg
VR4 Evo 0 Looming
Evo 1 ECU (chipped)
VR4 CAS unit
Balanceshaft removed

The engine was reconditioned with new piston, rings, big end, bottom end, idlers, tensioners, cambelt, waterpump blah blah.

I have just run-in the engine from using a straight 30 run-in oil. Wanting to find a oil to stick with from now on to use on a fresh engine.

As for the Idle, it was rough after first start, an ECU reset sorted it thanks to google.

Nice ride man!

I would definitely run AMSOIL on a fresh motor (after you broke it in of course, which you already said you did).

Was it built with stock pistons/rods etc. or is it built with aftermarket i.e. forged pistons/rods etc.?

Who built the motor? I'd ask the engine builder which oil you should run as it depends on the clearances. But as I said above, on a built motor I use AMSOIL ARO 20W-50 for extra insurance.

used to use valvoline synthetic, now i try to stick with mobil 1. synthetic oil typically tends to be the better choice, but then again i run NA.
