I bought a evo 8 motor used from a shop a few towns away. decided to do timing belt and water pump while it was out but the evo8 pump i bought doesnt fit. the "neck" is a bit longer than the one on the new pump i bought. visually the motor is exactly the same and a local dealer said yes it is a evo 8 motor. but why is this water pump different than the new one i bought
in the photos the one on the left is the new one i bought. on the right came off the motor

are you sure you got an Evo water pump? fitment should be the same, other than the mounting point for the alternator, as mentioned above.
