Harness Question
Figured this would be the place to post this up.
Swapping some Scroth (sp?) harnesses into the car. What methods have you guys used to get rid of the damn dinging from the seatbelt being off (unclicked). Do they sell the buckles themselves, that you'd just click in when you're using your belts, or does everyone just rig the power cord goin to the belt connector?
thanks guys.

well there is absolutly no reason to drive with a harness on the street. when you are on the track with your helmet on, windows down going over 80 most of the time you don't hear the beeping, trust me, i just did it yesterday.

just lookin for somethin easier.... now that i look, the buckles outta my rsx look the same size, so someone has to sell them.
i was thinking there mite be a fuse or something you could pull. back when i had my prelude (which has the seabelt light and beep) I put in recaro SRDs and when i was doing that i unclipped the wire that went to the seatbelt buckle, and with the wires unplugged the light never came on. having said that i don't know what the underside of the evo's seats look like.
There is a 2 prong plug under the seat. Unplug it and make a jumper across the car side. A small paper clip, cut to size, should work (I used a bit of safety wire). Put a bit of electrical tape to prevent shorts and hold it in.

gotcha, anyone know about the airbag situation? obviously if you're in a harness you don't want it to go off, by leaving the belt off, does that in any way affect the airbag system in the evo?

yeah, the dinging doesn't get annoying when racing (at least not yet for me). i just did an autocross today with my harnesses and the belt chime was going off the entire time, hardly noticed it. my harnesses are sitting in the car all the time but i only use them for racing.

hmm, thats actually what i didn't wanna hear. was hoping they would be disabled if it the belt wasn't on.
alas, just don't hit anything on a track, and i'll be fine

Well, I saw a guy crash his brand new $112,000 Porsche into the one and only wall (on the inside of a corner even) at Buttonwillow Raceway, deploying the airbags. He was fine, the car was banged up, and his helmet was scratched very badly (not from the accident, but from him chucking it down the front straight while shouting "F*ck!" over and over again) but yeah, it would be nice if you could easily turn off the airbag so it doesn't cause more dollars in damage if you crash.
