Exclamation F1 changes

Wow. These are some pretty hardcore changes for F1. I'm not quite sure what I think just yet.

Any opinions?

It's not that they can't communicate, the teams just won't be allowed to make changes while the car in on track. Most of these changes are to try and make the costs go down and competition up, I can't blame them. F1 has the best drivers in the world, but the difference of budgets between teams really takes away from the racing.

Nope....look a little closer, Mark.

Two-way telemetry (which allows changes to be made to the cars from the pits while they are out on the track) will not be allowed, nor will radio contact between the driver and team.
Like I said, pretty hardcore.

Use the pit boards to tell the drivers when to come in.

They probably have to ban communication back and forth because they could just wire up the cockpits so the driver could make more changes to the car during the race, effectively acting like a crude 2-way tylemmetry setup. It's probably an all-or-nothing kind of deal, no radios allowed period.

but still, i dont think its necessary to do that, its harder for the drivers to see on the pit boards right?

i dout a driver could turn a bunch of knobs and push buttons to adjust the car while he's concentrating on taking turns at 100+ mph

Speedvision showed in-car footage of Schumacher during practice sometime earlier this season and he was adjusting the brake bias within the car while driving at-speed, while coming out of a corner. Adjusting the bias actually involved him taking his hand off the wheel and adjusting something underneath there. It can be done.

Speedvision commentators also said that earlier this season he told them that he had such a big lead at one GP (Malaysia maybe) that he was actually watching the racing battle for position on the jumbotrons as he drove past them on the track!

Maybe it's just Schumacher that can do it, he is an awesome driver. But don't think that they wouldn't be able to figure out some way to make lots of changes from inside the car, and do it very easily if necessary. Remember in the old days they actually used to shift with a lever off the wheel, adjust boost settings, etc. A lot of this while going at insane speeds.

If you look, they backpeddled on most of these changes after the bigger teams threatened to form their own series... Guess they don't realize that we don't want to watch Schumacher parades with maybe 6 competitve cars on the track.

Well now they're just phasing it all in more gradually. Driver to pit communication is not going to be allowed, pit to driver communication goes in a year I think. Automaitc aids like auto shifting, traction control, and launch control all go away too. And I think they're still going to impose the 1 engine for every 2 races rule, and backup car rule eventually too. It's just not all going to happen right away.
