loking at the side pics, it looks like it's attached to... nothing?

that's not an evo! it's just a lancer made to look like an evo. 4 bolt pattern for the wheels. lancer tails. etc...wassup with that? I still root for team Mitsu though

wow how long ago was i lookin at this thread?

Anyway Mitsu had a Lancer called the 1600 which was rally bred i believe after the Galant VR-4 in the 80's....

Anyway...Lancers were formerly called Mirages (for some reason) and then the Evos inherited the prefix Lancer ::shrugs:: that's what I believe happened. lol

No quite true the original Lancer Evolution I's were already based on the bread and butter Lancer platform of the time. However not all of them were always available to the US.

Lancers still are lancers today. The Mirage name is given to the hatchback coupe version of the lancer. One of the more popular ones being the Mirage Cyborgs that had a 1.8(1.6?) L mivec engine a long time ago.
