Question new nasa rule about rollbars

there's this new rule for 05 that if your car has a rollbar is HAS to have a seatback brace (even for hpde, which is what i do). i was wondering what all those ppl with rollbars and stock seats were planning on doing? im in quite the predicament personally since i cant exactly bolt the autopower or io port brace to the stock seat. i emailed one of the techs for our region and he said id pretty much have to make a custom brace...

So if you don't have a cage and stock seats you don't need a brace? Strange rules. I think I'll be avoiding NASA events this year.

no. if you have a rollbar/cage and stock seats you DO need the brace. this is not new for the race groups (well obviously no race group is going to be running a roll *bar*) but they made it so its for all cars in any nasa event with a rollbar.

im not sure what to do since i cant bolt a brace to the stock seat since the seat has no real frame like an FIA seat.

what you do, is buy one of those seat back braces from I/O and then you mount a large plate with a pad on it. in PCA rules now, they dont want the back brace mounting to the seat for other safety reasons. I would think that if you had a back brace and a pad on a large plate to spread the force, you would be ok. makes more sense, especially if you have a stock seat or a race seat with only fabric on most of the back area.

^ do you have a picture of this setup? it makes sense to me but i want to be able to show it to a tech so they can say yay or nay so i dont have to worry about driving to the track only to not pass tech inspection.

Easy answer is to stop going to crappy NASA events. You have about eleventy billion other options for open track days.

So if you have no rollbar/cage and the stock seats, does this apply to you?

hmm.. leif from looking at your setup, i could possible see the danger in a freak accident situation. Pontentially with the stock seats, the seat could flatten out in a roll over which would get your head awfully close getting stuck between the bars like you pointed out to me the other day. Was your other option to go with new seats?. I dont understand how the same thing would really happen with a completely fixed racing seat. Its probably much less likely that the entire seat would be ripped off the floor mounts then for the seat back to give out.
