Will Kumho 710 fit without much drama?

I'm currently running 255 40 15 victoracer for autox. I rolled the fenders to fit 275 40 17 victoracer without much problems. I'm thinking about getting the new 710 from kumho after my current set of tires are done. Will I run into clearance problem if I do so because I heard the 710 are wider than the Victors (both are 275)?

With stock suspension and fenders and a 17x8 +33 wheel, I am getting slight rubbing on the fender liner on the left front with the 275 710s, but not enough to deter me from running them (appears to only happen when turning to the right). I have yet to try them on the rear yet, so I can't say anything about that. Ted Drcar ran them on all four corners last year with the same wheel and had some rubbing, but nothing he considered objectionable. Weather permitting, I will run them on all four corners this Saturday and I will report back after that...

I am running the v710 in a 275/40/17 right now. I thought I would have clearance issues, but there were none..

awesome tire. I ran them for the first time this past weekend..

In a nut shell, the car was awesome, the driver was not.

My codriver trophied in 4th, I sucked pretty hard... anyhow, the tires have so much grip, that we literally had the Evo on 2 wheels in some corners.

I have to change my whole driving style to manage the awesome grip that you get through these tires. My whole setup has changed... The sidewalls are so stiff, that we (my codriver and I ) dropped almost 5 psi out of the tires and we still didn't roll over the edges. By the end of the event, we were running 29 front, 27 rear and still not rolling over the edge of the tire (even when on 2 wheels! )

awesome tire, but I need way more seat time to re-learn how to drive my EVO again

just curious, but why were you letting tire pressure out? are you taking temps and determining that the center is to hot? letting air out because your not rolling the sidewall is not a very good idea without some idea of how your contact patch is looking.

ChrisW: What wheels (width and offset) and what type of coilover are you using? Any spacers?

Chrisw, nice to hear there aren't any clearance issues with the 710. Like wojo asked, what size of wheels/offset are you running? spacers needed? Yeah I heard the 710 are amazing the first 5-6 events, I really want to try them out.

I am running 17x9 +35mm buddy club P1 QF rims. I need to use a 3mm spacer to clear the brembos in the front.

I am using Ohlin road & track coilovers.

yeah, the tire temps indicated that we were running a little high in front. The back tires was a slightly different story. We had trouble getting heat into the tires until we just flogged the poor evo through the corners.

We never saw more than 160 degrees (inside front spinning) the rears never got above 120. What really impressed me was how much the tires cooled off during each run. we would drop 10 degrees within 2 minutes with no extra cooling. We decided to cool the tires down on the really hot runs, which helped maintain the traction (and the consistancy of the tires) quite a bit.

I definately have a lot to learn about how to use this tires to their maximum. I also have to dramatically change my driving style to suite these tires more. I prefer a loose car, with the v710's the back end is glued to the tarmac (or concrete this past weekend) and I have to learn to trust this new found grip levels before I can take full advantage of these tires.

FWIW, I tried fitting 710s (275/40) on a 17x9 +35mm Enkei RP02-J and it didnt work. I would have needed at least 15mm spacer in the front to clear the bottom bracket/spring on the Zeal coilovers. I am now using Hoosier '05 compound in 245, no spacers and the distance between the spring and the tire is no more than 1-2mm Plenty of room in the rear.

I figured I'd bring this thread back from the dead. I have a set of lightly used 275 40 17 V710s from my Camaro which I think I'm going to sell in the spring (the car, not the tires). Just wondering what it takes to make these work on an Evo. It sounds like Ohlins R&Ts with 17x9 35mm offset wheels will make them work? Anyone other than ChrisW been able to fit them without any cutting?

I would not worry about it, I see alot of EVO drivers with this tire/rim combo in my region and at the divisional events.

You will need to roll the rear fenders, and I don't get too agressive with the suspension drop.

I'm running the 275/40-17 710's on 17x9 35mm offset 5-Zigens,
with the Tein-Flex coilovers. I am using 5mm spacers in front and
no rolling necessary.
There is slight rubbing on the inner fenders up front when the wheels
are fully turned.

These tires are awesome, they helped me win my last 2 events and
become the GCAC: 2005 Street Mod Novice Champion!
