Slicks??

has anyone ran full slicks at the track?....i ran them at Thunderhill and dumped my stock clutch when i first got my car a year or so ago.....i'm going to Big Track Willow Springs on Thursday...and i have some used slicks i can run.....i think i can get below 1:30's with them...but i'm afraid i'll have too much grip and dump a motor or clutch.....anyone run them without any problems????....i've run hoosiers with no problem but slicks..hmmm..i dunno

Don't dump the clutch. Although I have dumped the clutch of Hoosiers and they spin, so it's probably not a bid deal even if you do dump the clutch due to the stiff sidewall unless they are really hot.

I think he meant that the clutch gave up, not that he "dumped' it as in drag racing. I just can't imagine the slicks making the clutch go away? The motor can only put so much force on the clutch no matter if it has slicks or Kmart specials? What am I missing here?

As far as oil starvation and slicks? From what I understand your (third) motor was built with a few tricks to help oiling? Did you install an accusump? I lost my motor due to oil starvation within the first 2000 miles (looks like the turbo seal gave up). The next motor seems to be bulletproof, so are you sure the corner forces caused the starvation? Or could it have just been a Mitsu screw up?

I know of at least one other car running the Yoko slicks. He is currently selling them off on the for sale forum, so he would be a good one to ask.

ok

i dumped my clutch at Thunderhill with yoko slicks...the snap ring gave out.....and the dealer put a ACT in for me...then a week later told me my warranty was void.....oh well...that sucks....my engine builder said it was oil starvation that dumped my second motor...now i have the accusump and everything seams to be fine....done a couple of track events on hoosiers....i was just thinking of trying to put the yoko slicks on again and giving it a try...the're good for 2 to 3 seconds....i'm just a little paranoid cause my car is running so well...don't want to dump this motor....i still have stock mitsu bearings....but now i have the AEM with wideband

1:30 = 1 minute 30 seconds .... road racing, not drag racing

I personally would not be worried about it, but then again, I'm only on the second motor

I was refering to the more traction you have the worse it is for your clutch. If you go to a dragstrip with dragradials and the track has been prepped with VHT, then drop the clutch at 6K, your stock clutch will slip and you won't go very far until you feather the gas. Once you get an upgraded clutch the next thing inline to break is your transfer case. So if you avoid these types of situations you will be fine.

And you've spent a lot of money on your car, why isn't it running well? As for the bearings, David Buschur only recommends using Mitsubishi bearings, not Clevite unless there's some special circumstance.
