which rim and tire for tracking my evo

Hi,
I am trying to decide on a set of rims and none R compound tires dedicated for track use only for my evo. I am looking for feedbacks or new suggestion to help with my decision.

-Rims: I will stay with factory sizes of 17". I am flexilbe on spending and looking for lightweight and high quality. Here are my choices:
1. volk TE37 - 11lbs??
2. ralliart - ?
3. ssr competition - 15.5 lbs
4. kosei k1 ts - 15.5 lbs

I know I can't wrong on volk, ralliart and ssr. I am curious if anyone had any experience with the kosei. It seems to be very light and good priced. I am wondering if the quality is up to par. Do you guys have other maker of rims that I should look into?

- Tires: I like the OEM ones alot. Again I am flexible on spending. How is toyo proxies 1? Any other suggestions?

Thank you.

Jim

255/40 for all 4 corners? any reason for running 255/40?

does ra-1 performance better than the oem? I thought oem is the street legal tire that closest to R compound.

Thanks

If they are for dedicated track use why do you not want R compounds?

The group that I am running in don't allow R compounds.

I would just get cheap track wheels. You don't exactly get tons and tons of use on them relative to your street miles. Maybe a set of Rota's.

5Zigen's aren't a bad choice. 17x9 with +35 offset. Not sure if these clear the stock struts though. RA-1's would be my choice to for wear and performance. They are borderline R compounds.

those will clear.i had that set up @ 1 time. 17x9 w/+35 offset & 255/40 ra-1's.great set up if you don't want to go to the next extreme like i did.
the advans are close to R compound, but why not just get R compounds????
the toyo's are great.a very streetable daily driver tire also.all four corners should have the same tires/rims.it's awd.

RA-1's are a great track tire. Good wear, great grip and they stand up well to a lot of heat. My combination is a 17x8.5 Enkei RPF-1 with a 255 40 tire. I've posted my impressions a couple of times in the wheels & tires forum. They also happen to be for sale as I'm moving to a different track car. See link in sig.

RA1 is an R compound. In my experience it also offers the best life and consistant handling characteristics through out a session also. If they dont consider it an R compound then go for it.

the OEM tire is nice, but its not really close to an R compound. (unless its raining, then its just incredible)

I guess you guys keep missing the point that he can't use the RA1's because they're R comps.
I use the stock wheels now and yes I'm also switching to RA1's. I'd give the Kumho MX's a shot. If I didn't make the jump to an R-comp that is the tire I would have settled with. I understand that they don't get greasy like the Advans do(that gets old after a while) plus they're cheaper.
I just found another wheel for street use to mount with some all-seasons for my daily solution. If you set on a set of wheels lighter than the Enkei's go find yourself some used SSR comps.

If money is no object, then I'll have to go with the lightest of the bunch .... Volks TE37 all the way and my tire choice for non- R compound tire would be either:
Falken Azenis RT-615
Stock Advans A046
Dunlop Sport SP1 (I forget)
