I wonder how the XP9's compare to the XP10's...

Sorry to bump this thread, but I was also looking for some of the same input.

I currently run a mostly stock Evo (I have an exhaust and a radiator, but no suspension upgrades), I have some 17x9 wheels and 255/40/17 ADVAN Neova tires and I killed my stock pads doing 5 track days in 2 weeks (I had to let them die with a bang!).

I originally wanted to go with the RRE/PF pads, but RRE isn't stocking the PF anymore because apparently PF is making a new compound for them and they won't have them available until next week, maybe. Since I am still not that fast, I think those may suffice for me. However, there is the chance that they might not get those in next week and I have an event at Limerock park the 18th and 19th. Would the Hawk HP or Ferodo 2500 pads be a good alternative? I am still in my beginning stages and not really super fast, but I am getting there quickly.

Any thoughts?

The 2500's would be a good beginner pad, especially if your stockers lasted 5 days. I got bumped up to the A group last month and finally found the 2500's limits - after running them for over a year (5 events).

Cool, thanks for the suggestion. I think I might go with these.

This is what I run on my race car, great pads! Track only...

Maybe give Carbotech a call and see what they suggest, they may offer a Panther Plus or XP8 pad that could be dual purpose pad.

Wear rate should be dependent on the track also. Some tracks are faster than others.

Yeah, that too. I raced at New Hampshire Intl' Speedway. There are LOTS of turns and you only get up to about 100-110 max on the one straightaway. A good run is under 1:30 and for only about 10 of those seconds are you out of third gear.

I used my stock pads for 4 days at Summit and they still have plenty of pad left. I switched to the XP10/9's for my last two track days and I love em! They haul the car down in a hurry.

I really liked the Ferodo DS3000's front/rear, haven't had a problem with fade using the stock tires. Even on the verge of locking up going downhill at 100mph+

I currently am running Porterfield R4S pads ...... My opinion is that they suck.... My rotors are purple but my stopping distance is still kind of crappy. I swap pads whenever I go to the track and I am looking for a dedicated track pad to use with the stock calipers.

I run 245/40/17 hoosiers on the stock rims. What is the best RACE ONLY pad?

I generally use XP-9's on the track. However, I was booked to instruct at a 3-day event at Tremblant but had broken a rocker arm on my BMW track car a few days earlier. So I had to use my Evo for the event. The XP-9's on my Evo were shot and there was no time to get new ones. So, I ran the whole 3 days in the instructor group with my HPS street pads.

Braking suffers, but you can do it. You just have to adjust your style a little and come to terms with the fact that you can't enter the braking zones as hot. I got black flagged twice for smoking the pads and "flames coming out of your wheels." But they held up!

From my searches I have found these suggestions.....

Endless SS-S and Carbotech XP9/10

How do the 9 and 10 differ?

The 10's are more aggressive and will work at slightly higher temps. If you have a big, heavy car (like the Evo) and run very sticky tires (like R-compounds) then XP-10's "should" work better than XP-9's. I haven't tested them side-by-side, so I can't say for sure. I have tested XP-8's and XP-9's and found the 9's work better for me.

Just remember that there IS a point of diminishing returns. Just because a pad works at higher temps, that does NOT mean it will work better for you! Pads work best when heated to their optimum temps. If, for example, you don't overheat XP-8's on the track, then there's little/no benefit to be had from moving up to the XP-9. And moving up to the XP-10 might actually be WORSE for you, since now the pad will be working under it's optimum temp range.
