Which Brake Pads For The Track?

First, I did a search and could not find what I was looking for. If you had to pick any of the following THREE pads for Hotlapping on a Road Course which one would you pick? I will, of course, have SS lines and Motul 600 RBF on the car.

1. Hawk HPS Plus. Evomoto has them for $130 for the front. The Hawk compound info is here: http://www.raceshopper.com/hawk_brake_compounds.shtml
2. Ferodo DS2500. Evomoto has them for $195 for the front. The Ferodo compound info is here: http://www.raceshopper.com/ferodo_compounds.shtml
3. Perfromance Friction. Road Race Engineering have their own compound what they call it their "95.7 compound." The PF compound info is here: http://www.raceshopper.com/performan...ompounds.shtml There is no mention of the 95.7. I assume this is a compound that RRE specifically asked for.

I have been hotlapping/road racing for 5 years and I am an experienced driver. I am coming from a FWD car that weighs about 2500 lbs and is not particularly hard on the brakes. I have had excellent results with the Hawk Blue compound on the FWD car, but these pads are more than $200 for the EVO.

Another question that I need to ask: Does the EVO need Hawk/Ferodo/PF pads for the REAR caliper? Or are the stockers good enough?

I had a bad experience with those pads on my FWD car. I tried them on the track and they fell apart. When I talked to Porterfield, they told me that it is not a track pad. Their track pad is the R4.

Another one not on the list that I have minimal experience with but was VERY impressed by is Project MU pads. My friend has them on his STI and I could not believe just how fast that car will haul down from 130+ mph...

I actually have a set on order for my Evo right now, I can't wait to see what they'll do. I will post up some impressions as soon as I get them on.

They make a lot of noise on my friend's STI, but it's worth it when you can stop like that, plus at the track who cares about noise...?

I've been very happy with the Ferodo 2500's. I'm on my second set, and they are a great pad for street/track use. I had stock rear pads for my 1st set of 2500's, then I bought a f/r set last time. When this set is done, I'll buy them again.

Could you please tell which Project MU pads you are running? I believe there are two kinds, but which one did you use?

These are the RRE Performance Friction? Correct? Which MU pads in the rear do you run?

If you are running R-compounds and your are fast, all those pads will not be enough for you.

I just killed (crumbled) my second set of Performance Friction pads at thunderhill today running 2:05's. I am moving to more aggressive pads now me thinks. Thinking of trying out the Carbotech XP10s.

I agree with Razorlab...
We were both at T-hill yesterday. I ran my PR yesterday of 2:08, and I had previously had the PF's. I was running the carbotechs yesterday, and was able to brake MUCH deeper and harder. The XP10's rock. Expensive at 225.00 per set, but a group buy could be organized, as you can btuy them direct from Carbotech.

Heck, I run street tires and none of the listed pads are enough for me. You need a dedicated track pad.

You got me confused. You are coming from a relatively lightweight FWD using Hawk Blue pads to a heavy awd car and you are asking about mild compound pads??? None of these 3 will be enough in the front (unless you are just starting out, but you are not). They will work ok in the rear though.

The 275's are great...but I'm really in need of coilovers. Bryan observed that on both my and David U's set up with the stock struts and Espelir springs that we are running out of suspension travel. We are going around the sweepers on the inside of the tread and loosing grip as a result....The biggest reason for the improvement in my times is track time. Golden Gate Lotus club events are the best bang for the buck going, 160.00 for 7 30 minutes sessions. I'm also finally comfortable with my set-up, and earlier int he year that was not the case. So, it's all good. Need to find a good racing school this winter though.

Man, I must still be slow then. The Ferodo's have been perfect - no fade, no weird pad transfer, no fluid problems, etc. I'm running ATE Super Blue with SS lines and the original stock rotors (38k miles), and I've come off the track at Nelson with the rotors purple and smoking. I'll be a B group driver next time out, but last time out my times were equal to the mid-pack A group times. Guess I need to push harder.
