Seasoned Track Heads...HELP!
Hello to all
Can someone send me a list of engine mods (for the Evo) that they are using while racing in NASAs road racing events.
I read the rule book and its basic as to what you can do and not do as far as mods..
I know you cant change cams and cant use adjustable cam gears.
Please send a detailed list(s) and recommendations even if it seem simple to you...thanks
Also what classes youre running in
By the way what classes does the Evo run in for NASA ?
thanks

I see alot of guys on here with EVO's built for road racing, so Im guessing its just for show? or just to run HPDEs?
Wow Im guessing I bought the wrong car...I should have just got the ACURA and run in the honda challenge.
Thanks for the reply back...I really appreciate it.
you dont know the answers to your questions and you are ready to race wheel to wheel?
Find the class that you want to run in, get literature and rules from the governing body, then ask administration/regional director for specific questions.
You thinking you bought the wrong car cause nobody is answering this thread... lol... ?

NASA has a class for everything....I do not think it has any EVO specific classes, (they may fall within USTCC (we have an Audi A4 or two that show up for that out here) you would probably run in one of the unlimited or super-unlimited classes where you could run any mods you wanted to......
most of the evos on here are not built for road racing, they are built for HPDE..ie. they do not have the required safety equipment, (roll cage, fire exstinguisher, kill switch, fire suit, helmet etc.)
there are a few evos running in scca either in the T1 class (basically a showroom stock class with a few minor rule changes to even out the cars) or in ITE which is a region by region class (meaning ever region has different rules as to what qualifies for this class)
as I said NASA has a class for any car that shows up....by the way have you done any HPDEs or been on track at all.....both the SCCA and NASA have requirements you must complete to get your race license......
any EVO is a fairly new car that is expensive to road race, most cars in honda challenge are like Se-R cup, older used cars stripped and converted for road racing except for two S2000's that run with NASA mid -atlantic (but those guys have some money to slap a cage in a 30000+ new car and are willing/able to write it off if it is totalled racing
ps. I have an EVO for the street but race in NASA's Se-R cup class

Im not ready to race wheel to wheel...I have lightly modded Evo that I use for the high performance driving events...I have a project Evo that is , getting ready to have the roll cage installed and just wanted to know what type engine mods everyone has if they race in NASA events...so I can start buying some parts before we get to the engine. I read the NASA rule book and like I said its basic...
Thanks for the input about contacting the regional director... I'll do that!
The reason I said i guess i bought the wrong car...is because I never saw any EVOs at any NASA events "Ive been to" (only at HPDEs) and when i talked to most of those guys ...they said they were only doing HPDEs (but I didnt want to believe it). So when "djh" said he only saw one Evo...I was to believe , that its true.
Im not here to cause any waves...I just wanted to some info on engine mods, so I could move to the next step in my project...
Im new to the whole Evo scene...Ive only raced Skylines and RX7s in Okinawa Japan...
I was turned on to the Evo and decided to buy one for everyday driving and an already track built/ prepped car...but the seller backed out of the deal and didnt sell to me
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWN%3AIT (not to put him on blast , Im sure he'll se this) ...so im having one built .So I will take your advice and just contact Chris Cobetto and his people...but i just wanted some info from some of the trackheads thats already racing.
Thanks

One reason why you never got a direct answer with a list of mods for any particular NASA or SCCA class is that the way a particluar racing team sets up their car may be considered "proprietary" secrets. Why would your competitor want to tell you for free how his car is equipped, after he spent a lot of development time and money on his track car?
You may need to learn this by trial and error in the real world, not in cyberspace.

i just thought there were at least one or two people out there that wanted to see more EVos on the track...that would have at least given up the basic mods list...no tricks of the trades or specific brands
but thanks
heres one beer for you
seriously thanks
From what I've seen, the most successful EVO racing programs focus on the rules that govern the class they plan to race in. Most sanctioning bodies are really leary about the pontential of the AWD turbo cars. So you're either looking at stock prolly with air restictor or running in an "open" class.
The stock class makes good sence if you want racing experience on a budget. These cars have shown themselves to be very reliable at the track, in stock form. But whether you are competitive or not has a lot to do w/ who did the best politicing when the rules were written.
To win in the open classes you better bring $$$. These cars are heavy, can have lots of grip, and can make hp enough to chase down just about any car that was ever street legal.
Just don't expect it to do that without going through parts both big and small.
So make it safe, make it handle, make hp to the extent you're willing to pay for replacement parts.
We've won 8 races in a row running ITE in SFR SCCA, but its taken a lot of work, a lot of previous experience, and lot of driver talent.
Good luck choosing your battle. Remember you want to have fun doing this, plan accordingly.

In your case, you've bought a project Evo and now you're trying to figure out what to do with it. You may find your options limited. A stock Evo will not be classed all that favorably: you'll probably find yourself up against very fast cars. And the kinds of mods you'd like to do to be competitive will only bump you up into even more competitive classes.

nasa classes for evo
You have three choices of classes in NASA to race an EVO:
1. Super Unlimited. Anything goes, no rules other than safety. Not really competive as you'll race a Vette one day, a Radical the next.
2. Pro Sedan 0. PSO has the same rules as ITE in SCCA. Be ready to race Vipers. Basically anthing goes using the stock unibody, but depending on your region you'll need at least 400 hp. or more.
3. US Touring Car. Specific Vehicle Tech Sheet for each model. I'm still working with the officials to get a spec sheet, but its looking like this:
No engine mods intake to exhaust + possible restrictor plate.
Coilovers, Solid Bushings, Remote Shocks ok, no moving mounting points.
No body mods except rear wing, air dam & splitter, lightweight panels ok.
Stripped interior with full cage and safety gear
Read the rules at ustcc.com for the rest.
