What an improvement !!! AMS Stage 3 @ TGPR
What an improvement !!! AMS Stage 3 @ TGPR
Well, just got back from TGPR (Talladega Grand Prix) where we I just tested the new tune put on the car by Automotosports.
Last time I was at the track, was on new Azenis (245/45) and with AMS stage one, but stock boost, I ran some low 1:13:30's. This was also with stock suspension, but with an upgraded rear sway.
Well, one year ago to the day, I returned to the track to see how much the car improved. For consistency sake, I ran the same Azenis with 12 track days, 100s of heat cycles, and about 7K road miles. To say they were worn out would have been an understatement.
Well, with the AMS Stage 3, and mine and JonK's setup on the car, I was lapping in the low 1:11.00's (just over 2.8s improvement on a 1.3mile track). The last session, I capped one 1.10:80, which was the fastest lap of the day. The beauty was, when I came in, one of the front tires was actually starting to cord. I couldn't make anymore runs, because I still had to use the tires to get home.
With R Compounds, and a LSD, I think I could have hit some high 1.07's, or lower. The reason I say that is I wasn't able to use any gear lower than third off of a slow corner, because the car would simply spin-off, and go into a slide *(yes, the tires were that bad). The first time I tried to run full boost off of turn 2 the car when into a beautiful, but dramatic slide with smoke boiling off all four wheels which put the RX8 club I was with into full smiley faces. None of them could believe how much stinking power it had (I think this is on vid too
). However, the car is THIRSTY now. I was getting @4MPG at the track.
Hopefully, I can get back there before they redo the track in August, and have my R's on the car to validate my thoughts.
Thanks to Martin, Eric(Automotosports), Warren at RacingBrake.com
, and JonK(Seattime).
Before and after vids to come soon

The vid is one lap from my first session, which turned out to be the slower of the day. You can see how flat the car corners now...
Now on to Road Atlanta to represent you guys in the NASA time trial series. .

nice, sounds like a blast. I proceded to bake the clear off my calipers this weekend @ the club course @ sebring.
that was a freakin blast. need to find some evo laps to compare to, but the low for the day ( didn't get that many open laps without traffic, but if i remember right, was a high 1:18. 1:22's were pretty consistant (traffic), but man, totally a blast.
Keep up the good work, i'll wait for the vids
