Evos kick *** in autocrossing..............remember, they are made for cornering. Also, the Advans grip like all hell, they are amazing in events!!!

What modifications do you have on your car, if any. Also, where are you located?

Around here an EVO is a very competitive car in the stock class. As said above the Advan tires are one of the best street tires available and grip very well.

One point of advice if this is your first AX - hold the throttle steady through the corners (no accelleration) and then once your front tires are pointing where you want to go hit the accellerator. If you get on the gas too soon you will push wide through the turn and go slower. If you tires are squealing and you try to turn more, you were going too fast through the corner.

GOOD LUCK. I know you will have fun.

By the way it is autocrossing not autokrossing. My advice to you is to enjoy the car stock and stay in the stock class. As you start getting better at autox'ng, your mods should be rcae tires and lighter wheels.

like others have said, the evo kicks ***.

Just remember to brake (hard) for the corners. It is better to be slow into the corner so you can get the gas down earlier exiting the corner.

as far as the stock tires go, they are awesome.

If you have not modded the EVO yet, don't. It's better to learn what the car does first before tweaking it.

for your first time autocrossing your evo is going to be amazingly faster than you can even think about getting it. It will take a lot of time before you will get near its potential so yes stick to stock for as long as possible. Maybe max out from negative camber and thats it then go drive. The stock tires will be grippy!

The car can perform very well, but remeber slow in = fast out!!! And use your BRAKES!!!!!!! I am still a novice at autox but I have put in a season so I cant wait for the 06 season to start... its a long learing process and is really fun when you get involved with your local club, good luck!

Assuming your suspension is stock, make certain to increase your tire pressures to something like 38 front, 43 rear or you will kill the outside edge of your tires. Some local Evo folks used these pressures successfully on stock suspension to help the car rotate.

Keep in mind that your mods will affect what class you run. If you are doing SCCA, non-stock rim sizes will automatically bump you up into the STU or ESP classes, which makes you run against cars with fully built suspensions and certain engine mods.

The Evo (IIRC) is no longer in ESP, it got bumped up to BSP. BSP basically means almost all bolt-ons except cams...and yes, boost control this year. I modded my car before I decided to autocross. At least I'll be in the novice BSP

This is very true. Something as simple as a cone filter will bump you out of Stock class. There are very few mods allowed. Check out the SCCA website left side column, under Solo - Cars and Rules. You can download a free copy of the 2006 SCCA Solo rule book (http://www.scca.com/Solo/Index.asp?IdS=008CCD-F7ADD10&x=050|070&~=) and check out Section 13 for Stock class allowances.
