Yo Tom, It's Ryan w/ the red 03. Had a friggin blast out there. Did you get pads? I melted my pads/rotors/boiled my fluid. Day 1 I drove hard... I mean really hard. I just couldn't get that setup right for the rain. Before VIR I'm going to pick up some Hawks, rotors, brake coolers/real fluid, and a rear sway bar... and perhaps even harnesses...(not made of money though)

I wish I'da gotten a chance to see you run out there, even more, I'da liked to see that graphite MR w/ the snail/Alch get out there... easily a 600hp machine. And I thought my 350 was hard to handle out there. (There was nothing I couldn't destroy... I could take the porche, turbo miata, C5 Z06, stangs [duh] lol) Anyways, had tons of fun. What are you running at Summit? I'mma work grid so maybe we can talk some more. If you want it my email is Honki_24@hotmail.com.

Summit Point-
I registered for group 3... not sure if they'll let me in. I got signed off after the first session on Sun., with mostly 1's, only a couple 2's. They would've been ones but the factory stock fluid was forcing me to bring things down a level or three including speed.

I offered Unk a ride, got Ronn Hale in the car, and did one ride solo. I know Summit Point Main and received high marks in the new car. I would've registered for group two again but it's full. I will need to see.

Pads-
I just used stock pads and fluid. I bled them after each session. Each time air and milkyway came out in the fluid. I need to do a full flush. Knowing I didn't have optimal setup or any backups, I took it pretty easy. This is an amazing car... there was an NSX in my group... it appeared to get smaller in the mirror very quickly. I was very pleased that the car likes to slip. Four wheel drifts (still accelerating so really slipping) through Faith, Hope and Charity were a lot of fun.

Setup-
Your friends said you autocrossed a lot. There's a big difference on RWD alignments for road courses and auto-x. You might want to ask some of the people here what changes to make.

I didn't know you had dampening adjustment, soften it up next time it rains. Work on opening up your steering on corner exit. Looked good out there.

NOTE: Couldn't get through the kink (T10) over 103 without the wing. The *** end would step out. Great practice for "slide control".

yeah I couldnt go above 105ish either on the kink... need that rediculous carbon wing ey? yeah, I have what I deem to be a very worthy alignment right now for the track: slightly toe in up front, zero in back, -1.8 cam up front, -1 in back(lol yay for looking up alignment specs on EVOM)... I mean man... it handled like a champ on saturday... but sunday.. I just couldnt get it together... felt like a honda it pushed so much. Now I gotta invest in *more* new brake parts (on the line of $1100) to handle the power in the turns. I've heard that neither summit nor VIR is nearly as hard on brakes though... although perhaps the word "breaks" would be more appropriate lol (wheels/lugs/fluid/pads/rotors/tires toasted... and a boost leak *I hope* to boot)

edit:btw, thanks. Wish Ida gotten to see you or the other cat in the MR out there..

I had set my last car up 1/8th toe in for autocross and 1/16th OUT for track. Not sure how the Evo likes to be though. I had the factory alignment for this event. Robi and others would know this for sure.

Summit is another small, tight course with hard braking zones. I've never ran VIRs north course, but the Full course has more highspeed brake zones and last year I overheated my pads. Turned them into crumbling burnt toast, so I switched to Raybestos ST-43s. At summit I overheated my hubs and liquified the grease. Expect Hyperfest to be hot, very hot and hard on the car.

I was out there this weekend with a couple of the porsche guys. I stopped by the red and white evo but saw no one around. I wanted to say hi and see how you guys were doing. I talked to the MR guys for a bit. Too bad the car had problems. The only lap time I saw from them was a 1.57 but that was the first time on the track and with a totally unsorted car.

What lap times were you guys running and what groups were you in?

dunno what I ran, I was in HPDE1 not allowed to time

Yeah, I'd think I'll prolly want a little toe out if I were running summit, its alot tighter, not much straight. THis was my first time out on the track though and I didnt wanna lose it in the straights so I had a little toe in on the front. Also think Imma need a rear sway so I dont have to worry about fine adjustments making all the difference in a weather change. (I need to try what you suggested w/ the damping too)

You were in the red evo? If this was your first time on a track I wouldn't worry about set up too much and changing sway bar settings until you have more experience. It just adds complication to an allready complicated situation. Just focus on learning the track and getting familiar with car control, traffic, ect...

As far as alignment: zero to .10 degree out on the front. As much neg camber as you can get with stock struts or up to -3.0 with camber plates and rear toe in .1 and -1.5 camber would be a decent starting point.

No idea. Just doing the Drivers Education events with this car. I was faster than... everything (NSX, Corvette w/ big freakin Hoosiers, porsche club car) but the little Prototype in my run group. I would've been faster but I had to brake hard for the kink (from 120ish to ~100). My old MB C230 Sport Coupe could go faster through the kink without stepping out. I had to be the lack of the wing.

I was in HPDE Group 2. Hopefully, HPDE 3 @ Summit.

yeah, but this isn't my first time pushing the car. I know when it is understeering... and man was it understeering badly... it was very aggrivating, I ended up having to brake in turns to try to get the end out.. not exactly how I'd like to take them. I'm quite confident that I am beyond HPDE 1 skill level. I am ready to begin perfecting my turn-ins/track-outs. Thanks for the alignment suggestion. Honestly when it was dry the car was absolutely and utterly 100% perfect. I think I'll try the same alignment again. Maybe the toe out in the front will help for more technical courses such as summit thou.

Is anyone going to CMP in July? It's on my tentative schedule and we've made hotel reservations. I've never been there, but hear it is very hard on the brakes. Can't wait!

For the Evo shootout? Haven't decided yet.

It's hard on the brakes and the left front tire. It is a great track with good tricks. Watch some vids and read lap of narratives.

I intend to register for the HPDE. What would those of you that have driven the track recommend for a first timer?
