Raybestos ST-43 - :thumbs up:

Put the Raybestos ST-43s on my IX RS yesterday and bedded them in on the roads around here that rival any east coast road course. I used these on my last weekend warrior and loved them. I bought them through Porterfield Brakes.

As anyone who has used them before can confirm, they provide an excellent initial bite, are very linear, and have great release characteristics. Easily modulated under threshold braking. This is important as I do not have ABS. I heard exactly what I was looking for, very consistent slight howl, not cherps or squeals at the limit. Did not excessively exceed the stock advans grip. Will be very nice with 255 RA-1s on track. They were not very hard on my last cars stoptech rotors. I am expecting the same on the Brownbos.

+1 These pads work very well...personally I prefer the 41's Note to everyone...they are track only, so don't drive them to the track unless you live next door. They are not quite as bad cold as Hawk Blue, but still will eat rotors up on the street.

Some info on the compounds...I've been pleased with them so far...

ST38 - "B" slightly lower mu than ST42. Wear still not as good as ST41. Good performance over broad temperature range with minimal rotor wear. Successful in a broad range of racing series. Use in dirt where you want less bite than ST41/ST43.

ST41 - "A" the best high energy input racing material available. Extremely successful in all the top three NASCAR series Raced by the 2002 NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart. Maintains high mu level at extremely high temperatures without sacrificing good wear - both pad and rotor. Needs some heat to work well.

ST42 - "J" lower mu than ST41 and ST43. Extremely stable average and in stop output over a wide temperature range. Has been very successful when used on the rear in conjunction with 41 on the front. Best high-temperature wear of all their materials.

ST43 - Friction level and wear rate between ST41 and ST42. Stability is not quite as good as 42 but better than 41. Excellent open wheel formula.

Do you guys know what the operating temperature range is for the ST43s? I'm curious if these pads will be good enough for me at the track w/ RA1s.

Here you go. FYI, the ST41 needs a minimum of around 600*F to work optimally.

hi!

ST-41 pads are incredible. they are pretty much the only pads that will last for 45 minutes of hard racing on my H1 car. they can withstand incredible heat; the rotors will glow orange/white hot on my car, on the hard braking tracks.

they are the most expensive pads i have ever used, but boy do they work!

my second choice is XP-12, from carbotech.

the ST-41s are def superior, though.

Cool to see others getting great results with the 41s

Do you run them rear as well? ....or 43s or 42s?

Fact being that I run them, I'd have to say not true

Here's my source. I like the service I get from these guys...although there may be a cheaper price elsewhere. And I don't think their web chart shows a 41 fitment for the Evo either. At first I had called them for some Pagid pads and they recommended I try these...glad I did.

I ran the 43's w/Hoosiers at the last event. Freakin great... I haven't run the 41s, by the numbers alone, they seemed to be more brake than I wanted... w/o ABS, good release characteristics are important.

With a NASA membership you get 10% (i think) off pads at porterfieldbrakes.com...
