Evo vs. Indy car (VIDEO)

900hp 1,500lb Indy car vs 3,000lb 333whp Evo

Well… not exactly a fair fight, but very interesting to watch. One would think the Indy car would expand the gap between an Evo and itself everywhere on the track but that was not the case. One the banking the Indy car was gone like a rocket, but when it came to the road course (infield) I think the gap closed a little.

All thanks to the freight train stopping power of my Racing Brake pad/rotor combo (I’ll be posting a full review on the brake test in the brake section soon.)

The driver of the Indy car came up to me after the event and congratulated me on how fast my Evo was. He really couldn’t believe it when I told him it was a street setup.

Enjoy

Nice vid and good driving on your part, but of course if that Indy car was driven at 10/10ths by someone who could handle it at that level, you'd be getting lapped in not too much time.

No question about that.... 10/10ths would be scary fast. He ran a 51.8 and I ran a 58.5. I'm guessing a pro driven car would be in the area of 45 sec

Nice vid and driving.

Bunch of factors keeping the speeds of the Indy Car down...
- that track doesn't highlight the strengths of an open-wheel car (except for the banking)
- setting up a car like that is very, very difficult
- driving one at even 90% is very challenging

For comparison, at Thunderhill a well-sorted Formula Continental (1000lbs, 160bhp) can turn ~1:45 compared to well sorted, well driven Evo @ ~2:00. I'm sure a well-sorted and driven Indy Car would be 1:30 or less.

It's still awesome to see a 4 door, daily drivable, street legal, 4 banger, put up somewhat of a fight on the infield. Not to mention the other 2 open wheel cars he passed on the bank... Those sure as heck got there on a trailor.

Cool vid .

Thanks for the comments... an F2000 car was there running the timed event and ran a 59.5 I think he had 180 hp

I was insane watching the Indy car blow by my door, the owner said he was running full downforce making near 4,000 lbs. You could see the vortex coming off the car... not sure if you can see it in the video.

I like the zo6 lappings. Your car really winds out on the straights and those brakes....jeez what do you have? Was that yellow c6 a zo6?

Yup ... C6 Z06. It's all about my brake setup. I've tested just about everything and nothing comes close to this setup.

Front rotors

Rear rotors

Pads

Wow! Nice video, good driving. What brand and size tire are you running?

Also, why are your rear rotors more expensive than your fronts? And I'm guessing you really like those pads?

Thanks...

I'm running a 245/40/17 Hoosier R6 in the video.

The rears are more expensive because they are more difficult to manufacture. They are the only two piece rotor on the market that can still utilize the emergency brake. Also they are sold in lower quantities. The rear rotors have such a nice bite… its like having a rear rotation on demand.

And the pads.... I think they are the best pad on the market, and will probably last all season.

What does this mean exactly? I've had another manufacturer's 2 piece rotors on my rear wheels for two years now and I'm pretty sure that the E-brake still works as designed.
