Im definitely in the Evo for awhile. I went through a Mazda RX8 and a VW R32 the last 2 years (that was expensive-mods and lost $ on the trade).
I drove someone's Evo at the track and fell in love. Incredibly fast responses, shockingly low lap times (in his stock Evo), plenty of room for both kids-I bought a nice black one the next week
I will definitely be saving $$ this year because I am happy and contented with the Evo. Plus, joining NASA pretty much stops my MOD spending as I wish to stay in TTA (no new turbo, and probably no 12 pt Ohlins).
Now I can just save up for registration fees and tires. Oh yeah, and a couple of new synchros for the tranny.
See you Midwest guys at the track next year

I agree, that's a great "cheap" racer. The 944 spec/cup series isn't bad either, although they are a little more expensive to maintain than the spec miatas for not much added HP. The spec racer fords are also a consideration. They have huge fields and are on the cheaper side, but they are butt ugly.

My goal next summer is to purchase an entry racer and use my EVO more for time trials/attacks. I will likely be pushed out of TTA next year, and if there isn't an entry in the middle of TTA and TTU then I will probably go ape **** and mod the hell out of the EVO.

Ok, so for grins, somebody fill me in on the basics for nasa's TT.

Cages required? What all is manditory for safety? Driver Suits? Just long pants/shirt?

Also, i noticed nasa finally canned the data acqusition rules, so thats finally open game.

I'd be classed TTU, no doubt, as mods haven't been made per any spec rules, but looking at some local times, i'm running faster than TTU lap records for Sebring, and not far off of some of the others. With that being said, whats the rule on boost? Legal to crank it (if you take the points for boost controller?)

Give me some take on the basics from some of you that actively participate.

thanks.

No cages - it's not wheel to wheel racing. No suits - just regular HPDE stuff. If you're in TTU, you only have to worry about not surpassing 500whp, which would put you in TTR. I recommend going to the NASA webpage and reading the TT classification guide.

Go here:

As for safety equipment and apparel, it's as much as you want; basic HPDE rules at the minimum.

The AMS Evo is most likely not going back to NASA, they are working on other stuff. There were other cars that were just off though, a couple of fast west coast cars, and some pretty good east/midwest stuff.

The SEDIV was weak for TTU, to be competitive Nationally you should be thinking 1:17s at Roebling unless Danny Popp shows up, then you should be thinking 1:15s at Roebling.

1.17 is a touch outta my reach at the current hp, and obviously, you know your way around Roebling better than I

However, other tracks i'd actually be competitive. (ie: theres not enough entries down here, for me NOT to be )

Just might be somethin to get into. Just bored after eating a whole bunch o turkey

Danny is nuts. It's a shame he couldn't make it to the Nasa Nationals this year. It seems he is always a few seconds quicker than everyone else on every track.

yeah, i'm nowhere near 500. i'm not topping 300

hmm, maybe when i hit that lotto, i'll upgrade.

Strokers and basically anything goes in ttu? (other than there was something about suspension, and it had to come from street legal.)

Whats the normal Dyno test? i mean, really whats the real max power that people run? 475? (to ensure compliance).

heh, i can't imagine my car with another 200 hp

Danny is nuts, I wish he had made it to nationals too, and actually lobbied for them to let him come for any session he could make it. (work had him very tied up) He ran a 1:32.2 in the summer, to my 1:53.1 official, and 1:34.4 timing beacon to timing beacon. (catching a car at the exact wrong place hurt me)

At nationals I ran the 1:34.3 but the track was much slower than it had been, the car was quite a bit faster. We had more HP/tirque down low, it was 200 lbs less than it was, new springs, splitter working better, etc. I do not think Danny Popp would have run the 1:32 nationals week - and I wish he had been there to see where we stacked up.

Brian, You should be competitive everywhere in the SE, and probably even the midwest unless somone (or Popp) shows up. Even if the AMS car does end up at NASA events this year, I really really doubt it will be in the Southeast, and it isn't TTU anymore anyway.

The AMS car had something like 135 points added to it, which is wht it was TTU, since they don't bump to TTR.

We ran at 492whp on the AMS dynojet (6 pulls the day before it went to nationals, high of 492, low of 486)

Things that bump you into TTR no matter how many points you have:
500+whp (awd)
Data Aquisition system that's not approved (which i think they have dropped now)
Tube frame

Then there is the "other aero mods determined by us" line, and I think if you change suspension geometry too dramatically then they would also bump, but that's up to the organizers and not written down in any kind of measurable fashion.

Yea we need to get you out there.. I need to have more Evos.

I actually have most of the dates, but trying to decide if i want some, or any summer dates.. June-July-August is pretty hot, and people don't want to come out. I can get a weekend which might help.. but I will have to see.
