That sounds odd. Separating the spindle from the balljoint/LCA is very easy on the evo. Now if they were talking about pressing out the OEM ball joint then I would think that would suck, especially since the LCA is aluminum...if you screw up there goes $300....

It is most def legal. In SM you can modify any part of the suspension as long as the pick up points at the chassis remain the same. this part interacts between the LCA and spindle, as well as the steering rack to the spindle. Although Daddio had asked a year or so back about slightly relocating the steering rack and he was met with a firm negative.

Thanks for the clarification - that's what I meant - getting the ball joints out of the control arms was the hard part. . .

And you are correct, suspension is pretty much unlimited as long as you use the stock attachment points on the frame/subframe of the car. You could (and some have) run full aftermarket a-arms and rear control arms that have all spherical bearings instead of poly bushings, as well as quickly adjustable camber and caster. Hell, you could even have custom Titanium spindles/hubs built to save a TON of weight off of each corner. . .

One thing I don't think you can do is modify or replace the stock front subframe even if all the mounting points are the same. If you could, and someone built an aluminum or titanium subframe that would also save a ton of weight off the front of the car. . .

I just found out today....looks like BSP won't be getting any easier. I took a peek through the back of my 2006 rulebook, and if the new owner is who I think it is, well they have lots of titles and the rest of the class will have their work cut out for them.

Hopefully it takes him some time to figure out this AWD thingy...like maybe it'll click for him in October!

Yeah, with that car there really isn't too much to figure out. You just point it where you want to go, hit the gas, and hold on!!

It's not really a secret as far as I know. Just say it. It's Tom Berry.

Yeah. I was kind of wondering myself why the owner of a well prepped car would be a secret.

Moving just the steering rack looks like it is OK, but moving the whole front suspension subframe in order to move the steering rack is a no-no.

Hey Mark,

I think it was more of a surprise thing for the first local event. I was asked to keep it on the down low. Can't wait to see your Evo at HPT.

Wow! I just looked through the 2007 rule book list of champions - looks like Berry has ALOT of championships between solo and prosolo. Didn't count to see who had more, him or Daddio. It sure is great to have so much racing experience behind the wheel of the EVO.

I predict great things for the EVO at Nationals this year. How many 1st places do you think the EVO will take this year? 1? 3? More??? I predict 3 . . . but I'm not saying what classes

Now that the cat's out of the bag, I know Tom will have tremendous fun with the car in BSP. He was loving it at that first weekend. I already asked him for the car back to no avail. Rick, I think you should take a closer look at it for some tips since it'll be closer to your neighborhood. You know how I still feel about your west coast wing and the other tweaking you had to do in Topeka.

It was great to hear Mark coming back to solo this season with the car continuing to improve. I'll be taking on a new class this year, that's still being finalized with some special parts under review.
