track time

so ive been to a nasa hpde, and want more track time but it seems as though ventures and redline sound similar about 1 hour total drive time per day. this right or is my head jammed somewhere? a link would be cool if you have one.

also i ran cal speedway which was awesome! i asked about scratches and everyone said dont worry but when i came home the front of my 4k mile ix was blasted with over 20 good scuffs from the rubber and this was after i cleaned the rubber off, so it was clear coat damage that'll have to be buffed. i want to keep going to the track because i love it and would like to compete sometime. is my only option to save my paint, masking the bumper? also buttonwillow and willow spring look like it would horribly damage paint with all the rock debris on track....... am i seeing things or is this true? help me get on the track as much as possible without destroying my new cars paint...!

I have 2.5 years of racing my Evo and haven't noticed what you're referring to...

well when i came home i washed the car and there was little rubber skid marks from peices bouncing off the bumper, i thought i could rub em off while i was washing it (i also hear wd-40 takes rubber off really well) anyway alot of it came off but there are still alot of spots where it looks like rubber hit and made small scratches that wont clean up without a buff or maybe wax

I get tons of chips. I've learned to love them as "battle scars". You can get one of those clear plastic coatings for the front end, they seem to work great.

My typical track day is 4x20min sessions. This has been through both NASA and SCCA.

Our track is kept very clean so there is little to no debris out there. The tire leavings have not left any permanent marks on my car. The cones I've killed have left worse marks.

If you care about rock chips and tire mark, I suggest you not to track your car. I've tried clear plastic protection (3M clear bra), it doesnt really help much.

Look at it this way.

The more rubber you have plastered on your hood/bumper. The better you did. You were right behind somebody with much stickier tires, and the more you have, the more often you were behind people "catching traffic".

Tape is a joke, unless you're down here in florida during lovebug season, but i still don't run it. It's part of running a street car, on a race track.

Stay away from everybody, or take your dents and dings

Your head is jammed. You get a minimum of 2.5 hours track time per day at SpeedVentures, RedlineTrackEvents (HPDE, not Time Attack) and OpenTrackRacing. And it has been my experience that you can get more if you just ask in the afternoon, as traffic subsides.

I think he's talking about a clear bra. I had mine installed 2 days after purchasing the car, so maybe that's why I've never noticed the things you're talking about. I just wipe off the front end whenever stuff is stuck to it.

Try using a clear bra on your front hood/bumper as others have suggested. You are right NASA only gives you 4 20min sessions per day but I find that to be enough as I'm not putting as much wear on my car ... Plus I feel like I'm actually headed in some direction (towards Time Trials) ... NASA track time is limited because they have to juggle all the HPDE levels, TT and races ...
