Devens Tour

If the preliminary results hold, it looks like the Evos had a pretty good showing. What I see so far is:

BSP - Clean sweep of the two trophies with Jon Winchester and Kevin Lau winning 1/2. Jon really put the smack down. He was only a tenth behind Daddio in total time for both days - I'm impressed. Kevin was 7s ahead of the 3rd place 350Z.

STU - DOMINATING win by Cory Ridgick. Who is that guy? I noticed when digging through a bunch of regional results that he was finishing high in his region's pax, but I didn't quite expect him to win STU by almost a full 2 seconds. The 2nd place guy was also an Evo. Great job.

SM - Daddio took nearly a 1 second lead on day 1 but then held on for dear life on day 2 to finish with a half second win over the Chris Travis Honda Cibic (Yo!) driven by the co-driver. Mark got 1st, but then 2 Civics took the next 4 spots, each with both drivers trophying. Jan finished just outside the trophy spots in 6th with Nelson and his co-driver finishing 7th and 8th.

Pretty good showing, imo. I thought Mark would dominate moreso, but there's nothing wrong with winning a National Tour event in SM by half a second...

John Winchester drove really well, and his car is working well. I tried some things for this event to get more grip, and that worked. Unfortunately, the side effect of that was that the extra grip unweighted the inside tires more and led to lots of wheelspin in the rear on day one, and a wasted rear posi. For sunday I put a smaller rear bar on, and tried to lock the car down with rebound, and that kept the rear down better, but then the front was coming up and spinning on corner exits. Bottom line is the car needs better diffs front and rear, and to be lower. Back to the drawing board. When all is said and done, it will be very fast. But not so much this past weekend. Big thanks to AMS for making big usable power. Part throttle is very usable, with no bucking or surging at all. It does go really quick when it is hooked up though.

Mark

Look up past National Tour and Pro Solo events in STS. You will see Corey in a trophy spot, if not winning, in his RS and often. However he is still a rookie driving the Evo

Ridgick may be new to the Evo but he's gonna "bring-it" fo sho. We'll see how things work at the DC Pro with Corey, Mike N, Dan and I. It should be fun!!! I'd expect Corey to do very well at the DC Pro since he's got much Pro experience.

Pretty sick weekend. I wasn't quite sure to expect after Mark beat up on us a couple weeks ago at englishtown. I made some changes since my car hadn't been turning well on any surface. Turns out they helped a good bit. I personally didn't drive well on Sunday and left some time out there, but Sat was awesome!

Thanks for the compliments Mark, I appreciate it. Funny thing is I almost ran with you guys since Kevin was up in the air about coming to Devens.

About diff's...someone needs to sell a reasonably priced clutch type for the front of the evo. GSC are you listening? Cheaper than the center though pretty please. My car has serious front wheelspin exiting alot of corners. I know one reason why, but it cannot be cured with suspension tweaking alone.

About STU....they ran in rapid drying conditions on Sat and Dan and Adil were struggling a little with their setups. Corey also laid down a MONSTER of a last run. They all had me sprinting to reset cones on their last runs. Sunday flipped a bit and Adil was charging enough to take down Dan for 2nd and set STU FTD. Corey's lead from Sat with solid driving Sun kept him in the lead. Dan almost hit the timing lights on Sun since he had loosened the car so much.

I'm expecting the Pro to be crazy in STU.

I'll have some video up in a day or so as well as some maxq. Dan should have some vid and maybe data too. All of it will be on our blog (link in sig).

I'm looking forward to the DC Pro ( Mark) as it's always a fun event. If anyone needs a hotel I highly recommend the greenbelt Marriott.

John

Thanks for the props guys, but it really wasn't quite the rout that the results show. Adil really put in a great drive on the 2nd day and Dan was stuck with some bad gearing on a fast course.

Most of the top cars in STU were underprepped and most are still being sorted out (we don't get year-round auto-x up here in the Northeast). My car has coilovers and a catback, that's it... Adil has a daily driver compromise setup and Dan is still on stock STI wheels. We've got a long summer ahead of us to get our cars and driving up to par.

The drive of the weekend award hast to go to John Winchester in BSP... Especially on Saturday, John was on FIRE. It's going to be a fun class to watch at Nats.

Corey Ridgick #89 STU

Thanks Corey, I think we both had a good afternoon Saturday.

As promised here is some in-car and a little write-up from this weekend. Sorry about the quality but all the online video places ruin it. I have higher res if anyone wants it. No data yet either as I'm trying to digest it.

Also some links to results and pics in there.

Impressive all around. Great showing, guys.

I can't get the embedded vid to work, though.

I had an awesome time this weekend driving Kyle Bishop's Evo in SM. It was pretty much the first time I had driven the car so it was quite a rush. The car definetely needs some suspension tweaks to make it turn the way I would like it to, but it was fun anyway. I'm definetely not used to any sort of power so leaning on the go pedal brought a grin ear to ear every time.

I'm not sure what I'll be driving for the rest of the year but hopefully I can get back in an Evo to learn how to drive the darn things so I can at least try to keep up with Mark or John.

My brother in law said the video didn't work for him either. Here's a link to the google video page.

Missed the quick registration, but put my name on the waiting list. Nancy called just last week telling me there was an opening. Since I did not think I could get in, I scheduled my vacation plans. Oddly enough, I'll be traveling close to DC. on my way to Virgina Beach that weekend. I would have liked to be a part of the big STU field and a rematch with Mike N. . Maybe next year.

I'm also looking forward to the MidWest Divisionals in Aug. (HPT)
