My auto-x results...

From the 38th Annual "Duel at De Anza" auto-x

14th out of 17 in my class (STS). Bleh, not so great. The three cars under me were 95 & 97 Civic and a 240SX

On a brighter note, my 63.866 seconds was good enough to beat a stock S2000, an MR2, a Miata, an RX-7 & RX-8, a WRX, a 90's Mustang, 04 Mustang gt, a GTO, Camaro, a 65 Mustang. Not bad.

Very first. I was nervous because of all the badass cars pulling up in the grids. Handful of Evo's, STi's, s2000's, a bit menacing for my 100whp Lancer. But when it was my turn to go for it, all that nervousness went down the tubes. I'm starting to learn that your numbers aren't the most important thing -- balance is. I think I was smart in choosing to get suspension mods first.

And yes, a whole lotta fun.

haha....now you are hooked! You will figure out that you can easily beat a lot of different types of cars perceived to be "better" than yours. What really matters is that you get better every time you go out, you learn something new, and HAVE FUN!
Make sure and ride along with some veterans in your region....that will help too.

Ranked in highest to low order for auto-x:

1. Driver
2. Tires
3. Suspension
4. Powa

In this sport a fast driver with a crappy car can beat a crappy driver with a fast car.

I've been reading into HPDEs for a while and have read some experiences guys are having on these boards. I'm feeling like I will (soon) join one and run an hpde probably at infineon or laguna seca (since they are the closest). Now on a road course, would these 4 categories still be in the same order?

Also, is (excessive) tire squeal indicative of anything? Does it mean I'm rounding the corners too fast and that I need to slow it down or is it a good thing? If I get better tires (still on those stock Eagle tires) will I squeal less?

It means you're pushing too hard. Street tires let you know when you're overdriving by squealing.

Can you tell me more about how unique AX? I was thinking of entering next year. I heard it's 3 laps with the first being a warm-up. How do they class the cars, street tire vs race tires, or standard SCCA classes?

Thanks

Yup, three laps with the first being untimed. Classes are pretty much SCCA but they probably aren't as rigid when they do tech. They class you waaaaay before they do tech.
