SM update- time for a tranny upgrade
SM update- time for a tranny upgrade
Well, during the DC Pro Solo, my car developed quite a whine in 1st gear. Since I have spent the previous 3 events shifting between 2nd and 3rd, and riding the rev limiter all over the place, I decided to take advantage of the bad tranny thing, and address the issue. Since putting the evogreen turbo, and aem in the car, it pulls to 66mph at 8000 redline like nothing. After a call to John Shepherd at Sheptrans, we decided that a 4.11 final drive change would be in order, along with some of his magic to make downshifts to first gear a possibility in tight turnarounds. With a 8000rpm redline, and the 4.11 final drive, 1st gear will be good for 49mph, and 2nd gear good for 75mph. Hopefully all will be back together by the Romulus Pro Solo on July 21-22, and find out if more power is in order.

Jeez again, Mark. I don't see how any of us can keep up with these expenditures, haha. Now, my own sponsor is about to contribute to me getting pwnt even worse than before, hah! That 4.11 final drive along with Shep's magic should make things quite nice for auto-x...
tcase noise would be in all gears. This is just first gear, so not sure exactly what happened, but it is just with first gear. Changing to the 4.11 gear set was 1100 in addition to the standard rebuild.
Wow, is anyone going be able to keep up with this car and driver combo in SM? I doubt it
... Hope you take 1st place @ Nats this year ... Go get 'em!
I pity the fools that have to shift to 3rd

Good grief Mark, I may be bringing a knife to a gunfight in Topeka after all...
That speed in 2nd is fantastic
I've had no issues (so far) when going back to 1st on the really tight areas--just a heck of a blip on the heel/toe & it's back in 1st nicely.

Thankfully you should never see 1st gear needed on any Nationals type course, so 1-2 downshifts aren't a real problem.
