Autocross Tech inspection Question

Simply put: If a tire has been plugged will it automatically fail tech inspection at an SCCA autocross?

It shouldn't.. I don't think you will be looked at close enough either.

The reason I ask is my front right tire has a plug in it from a sheet rock nail about 3 months ago. I was planning on attending an autocross about 70 miles from me this weekend and I don't want to drive all the way down there to find out I can't run. It's near the outer sidewall but still within the tread. I read the SoloII rules section about tech inspection and they just use the broad terminology that if a tire is "deemed unsafe" that it will fail inspection without mentioning patches or plugs.

Figured I'd ask the experts. I've only ever been tech inspected at an autocross twice and that was in a bone stock SRT-4 in mint condition.

Unsafe to me and everyone else I have met means cord showing, maybe seperated.. I have seen plugs and not worried about it.

From looking at your signature I'd say you might know a thing or two about a tech inspection and may have even performed a few hehe. Thanks for the information. I will stop worrying and go have some fun!

Well you were right. They basically gave a minimal passing glance at the tires, kicked all four corners to make sure the wheel didn't fall off and were satisfied.
