Autocross help
I need some help please. I drive a JDM 2005 Evolution IX, it is bone stock. I just wanted to get some pointers on autocross; I am actually going to be doing that soon.
• Anyone think of any modifications or adjustments I should make to the car now?
• Any modifications I should consider for the future?
• Any things I should be aware of so I don’t mess up my car?
• Tire Pressures?
• And any other general knowledge I should need?
Also I did some ECU Tuning on my care personally (just adjusted timing to reduce knock), anything I should adjust for autocross specifically that may help?
Thanks, any help will be greatly appreciated.

post this in the motorsports section, there already are 3-4 threads that are 20+ pages long stickyed that have everyones settings for autocrossing, including mods, alignment settings, class information, tire pressures + brand, etc.
as far for autox, you do not need power, is skill that counts!
handling: coilovers, good tires, (stock ones are fine) good aligment for x.
power: full turbo back, manual boost, and flash it, thats it.

tire pressure depends on what brand/type of tire you are running. experiment around with it until you find the setting that seems to work best.
you can brake alot later, and alot harder than you think you can.
you can accelerated alot earlier, and alot harder than you think you can.
i would suggest taking your car out in it's current form for at least a few times. this way, you will have an idea of what you feel make need modified (or perhaps nothing at all) to make you more competitive. evos are very capable cars right out of the box.
a good set of tires goes a long way.
good luck, and enjoy yourself!

The 2 biggest mods you can make are driver experience and sticky tires. Don't mess around with other costly hardware upgrades. Spend the money on seat time and learn to be a better driver. Things to remember:
1. Look as far ahead as possible.
2. Slow in fast out.
3. Walk the course as many times as it takes you to remember the line.
A few of the free-ish tweaks you can do are, turn the front camber bolt to gain a little extra -ve camber in the front. Get a decent alignment on the car.
Max front -ve camber
1 deg -ve camber rear
Zero toe front and rear
Depending on the tires being used, change the tire pressure to help improve grip and handling. If you are using stock Advan tires set the front to about 39-40psi and rear to 40-41psi. Other tires will work best at different pressures.

I agree with DaWorstPlaya. Learn your car as it is now. Try a few events and see how you do. Autocross is about skill not power. See how the car behaves in corners before you modify anything. Talk to some of the other drivers around you and see if they have pointers for you. Most of these guys and gals are more than happy to help. Most of all have fun.
