Am I ok to AutoX?

Alrighty well it looks like I will finally be able to do my first AutoX this weekend. I've been looking forward to this ever since I did the Skip Barber racing school. I wanted to know if it would be ok to run my car without ss lines/pads/fluid. I'm guessing it's fine since plenty of stock guys run their cars at AutoX. My only mods are full TBE w/HFC, drop-in, Wally 255, and Jestr e-flash utilizing the stock BCS. I'm just a bit paranoid with something going wrong with my car. I would really like to go this weekend as I will be gone for the entire month of July.

Your fine! Add 8 psi of air in your tires, and add a "tad" more oil. That is what I do. Have fun!!

Ya I figured so just wanted to make sure. So what pressure's do you recommend? I'm on the stock A046s and prefer a bit of oversteer

its hard to get oversteer with the evo.. I usually autox with 39 front and 37 rears. Just dont go over 44... thats what the stock advants max at... And if you wanna get a your rear to move a bit get a stiffer sway bar... thats what i did... and i helped me.

I like taking a passenger with me on the runs, it balances the turns greatly! I Use this special piece of equipment, so I don't have to worry about 2 second cone penalties anymore!

It's just autox, man...very low speed and uneventful. Skip Barber prepared you for real racing, not low speed, tight turns around cones. You don't have a thing to worry about, but if you really ARE worried about doing an autox with the stock brake system, then yes, you ARE paranoid.

I am not sure why Graphite MR puts less pressure in the rear, but maybe it's because he added the sway bar thinking it would improve rotation. What you should do is put MORE pressure in the rear to help with rotation, because that helps give the fronts more grip than the rear.

I run 40 front and 38 rear. AMS crew recommended it for me and it works great.

You and your car will be fine....
Just relax and remember to have fun !!

Check all your fluid levels, no need to over fill anything.
Make sure your lugs are tight, tourued to 85 lBS
depending on what tires you have on your car the presssure you run will vary, but one thing that will stay the same is the split..always run 4 lbs more in the front than the rear.
Remember to get there ealy, and walk the course at least 4 times..YES...4
and the most important thing is to remember to HAVE FUN....this is whats its all about.

Ya I'm mostly looking forward to preparing my car for road racing, but I thought I'd get my fix at AutoX first. I plan on running a bit higher pressure in the rears to promote rotation. I know I'm paranoid, but can you blame me? (probably shouldn't ask)

Hell yea the Evo is prepared for Auto-X. It's 99% of the way for an open track day, less new pads and fluid.

You'll be fine, don't be so paranoid. As Warrtalon suggested run a higher pressure in the rear to promote rotation. I've done that successfully in the past. Also make sure you get classed correctly. I think you'll end up in the BSP class because of the fuel pump. Auto-x is not hard on our cars ...

- 85lbs for daily driving, but 100 for racing

- Why always 4 more in the front? That's backwards, and there's no way it should ALWAYS be the same split. It depends on the car setup, the course, the tires, the tire heat, the driving style, etc. In the Evo, he wants more pressure in the REAR, not front.

- Some of the best drivers don't do any course walks or maybe only 1, because it's far more important to learn to look ahead than it is to memorize a course

- Been autocrossing since 2005. Surprised you say these things after almost 20 years experience...

Whoa! 100ft.lb is too much torque ... you'll stretch those studs don't do it!!! Plus if you do a 100ft.lb they tend to loosen themselves to 80ish ft.lb of torque after a run on the track because of the elastic effect. Just torque them to the higher recommended torque specs from the factory = 78-79ft.lb ... trust me after doing lots of track days I haven't had a problem with them loosening ...

First off, my suggestion on the 4 lb split was based on the info we were given on his car. With a stock suspension and running of street tires i would reccomend the 4 lb split front to rear to compensate for the lack of camber.

# 2: every driver is different, and walking a course is not to memorize it.
Old timers like myself walk the course multiple times looking for faster lines...
yes looking ahead is the correct way to drive..but you NEED to know what you are looking ahead AT...

#3 like someone else said, do not tourque your wheels any more than the factory reccomeded setting, unless you are running aftermarket studs, lugs and wheels.

#4 You last staement about my advice was uncalled for, i speak with 20 yrs of experience...

hope to one day meet you at Nationals....
