Autocross in Ohio
Autocross in Ohio
So this weekend was my weekend to return to the "wonderful" town of Akron, Ohio. I was able to make the autocross event run at Goodyear's tech center. As always, it provided some good laughs and good competition. Im slowly (read, slowly) coming to grips with driving a car at speed, but certain variables (inexperience, auto tranny, no horsepower) are some major hurdles.
At any rate, the autocross was a blast. Met an Evo owner there who was a really nice guy. I believe his name was Chip, and hes a member on these boards. He wasnt really pushing his car, but he still ran second in AS class. This was more impressive considering he wasnt running hard and that the car that beat him was a 96 Gran Sport Vette with much stickier tires. Also in his class was an STI (yea, this autocross was nuts, a handful of 350z's, a new RX-8, 240 Silvia conversion, I could go on....) which he beat by about a second I believe.
So other than me and my friends laughing about my snail of an OZ and my inablility to pitch it into corners at a correct speed (hey, I make the payments, Im nervous, haha), seeing the Evo on track was my highlight. Ill post pictures from the event when I get them off my friends digital camera.

That was me, a stock Evo on stock tires. I had a really good time. I didn't beat on the car due to the fact I only had 614 miles on it. I was getting really good speed on the downhill straight, just about rev limiter in second before I had to brake hard to make the 90 degree left hand turn. The stock tires really didn't do too bad. This is the first time I have autocrossed on stock tires in over a year. You really have to back up your braking points.
I have had the car a week as of today. My race tires will be on the car for my next event.

There are two autocross events in Akron every month when the weather is over 45 degrees. The Neohio event is held the first Sunday of evey month at Firestone. The ASCC event is typically every third Sunday of the month. Their next event is the 4th Sunday - August 24th. It's location changes between the Goodyear Tech Center and the Euclid Square Mall location.
There is also the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Club that runs events in the Mansfield, Ohio area at either the Mansfield Lahm Airport or the GM Stamping plant in Ontario, Ohio. You can autocross every weekend if you don't mind driving a few miles to get to some of the further events.

As soon as I move out of Akron they finally have a cool autocross. I hope it was fun though maybe they'll have another one sooner or later.
