My First AutoX Pics (and video)
The sidewall is noticeably softer than stock on the road (providing a nicer ride), but the tires never seemed wiggly or out-of-control at the limits.
The grip starts out amazing, and just gets ridiculous after they warm up. I had an instructor ride with me on my first run. He uses Falken 615's. His first comment when we finished was, "holy crap, you've got a ton of grip. What kind of tires are those???"
All in all, I was pretty happy with how the tires did. Just for reference, they are Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R's 235/45/17, they have about 2000 daily commuter miles on them.
And realize that when I say "top National STU guys" that means: "price is no object." The Bridgestones come in a close second to the Yokos in reality.
The top national STU guys don't like them. Don't get me wrong, they're an amazing tire, but they're a little sloppy in the transitions. The Yokohama AD-07 is the current hot tire for STU Evos. The new Dunlop and Toyo haven't really been tested yet, but I'm betting the Yoko still comes out on top.

I didn't know Matt Damon had an evo, let alone autocrossed
.
On a serious note, You are lucky you got the other half envolved early so she could get hooked with you; trust me it's a major pitta to have to explain/justify/apologize or even compromise for your racing time.
Enjoy it.

So you think I look like Matt Damon? Wow, i guess that's a compliment.
I know what you mean about racing and your significant other. My wife is pretty supportive of it, and I know that it's a blessing.

There was also a wicked fast driver there in STO driving a 98 Impreza with full 2006 STi powertrain
BTW, I should have been in STB and now we have to go and get the scores redone so the poor Mustang driver in STE can get the first place points like he deserves. Man, I feel like a tool.
Don't worry about it. As a first-timer, its not really your responsibility to get your class right. Someone there should have realized you weren't in the right class.
