7/20 Wash DC AX

We covered this event some already, but they finally got the PAX numbers out and I was 35th out of 212. That's not as impressive as my Mazda Rev it Up results, but it's as good as I've done all season. jbrennen was 107th (5th in Novice), bluedot was 116th, and beast464 was 185th (16th in Novice). Gotta get those boys some race rubber (just don't use 'em at Rosecroft!)...

Tire Rack shipped 'em today -- some serious race rubber.

Wheels are also ordered; hopefully for the August 10 event at FedEx, I'll be good to go.

And they will never touch the Rosecroft lot...

What are you getting for tires? I assume you're getting RPF-1s for wheels...

I'll be joining the ranks of those who are changing tires at the event; those don't look like a good street tire...

And with only three (?) more events this year at FedEx Field, I figure they should last into next year.

How did the Z club's auto-x went JT? I thought you were doing pretty good times, but could not hear your last two runs.

Well guys, I will be staying with the stock rubber... I remember all the work of swaping wheels when I was autocrossing the Eclipse, and don't particularly miss those days. But, since I now feel more comfortable tossing the car around, I may stop needing to practice that at the autocross, and may just start driving the autocross line now... so that may give you guys some competition

Pablo.

I coned my last run, which was 44.2xx raw. IIRC, my third run was like a 44.4 or 44.5. What was unsettling for me was that jbrennen ran a 44.2 as well. He nipped a cone though, so he didn't end up beating me, but he was on street tires and I was on Ecsta V700s, so I was duly impressed by his effort.

I tore up my RF tire quite severely though; large flaps of rubber were literally torn from the cord near the outer shoulder of the tire. It was if the tire was generating more grip than the rubber itself could actually handle. Maybe that's why jbrennen was so close, the R compounds were tearing themselves apart...

JW:

I heard from Michael Patnode that he ran a 45.1 (in an A Stock Corvette). So this is the first autoX I've beaten him. I don't know what tires he ran at Rosecroft.

It seems that you beat Michael by approximately the same margin you've been beating him recently, but I moved up the speed scale a bit. Not sure if that's driver improvement on my part, or if Rosecroft is relatively more favorable for street tires, or maybe a bit of both.

Rosecroft is horrible on R compounds I think, street tires seem to be better.

JW - I am impressed you got 1st place in the auto-x on the 20th in AS, way to go
