PPIHC car on 'rolling display' this weekend
PPIHC car on 'rolling display' this weekend
I posted up at the end of the PPIHC thread I started about a year ago...but thought I'd start a separate thread so people wouldn't have to wade thru that long thread.
So, here's the deal. With our season officially over, now its time to have some fun with the car, with no pressure to win. We will be at Colorado Offroad Extreme this weekend playing around with the car. I'm hoping to have some extra folks with me so that we can set up for some video shooting. I'm going to try to put together a promotional video in the next couple of weeks, and I want to get the car from as many different angles as possible.
CORE is an offroad motorsports park with a 2-3 mile dirt track on it, with jumps, hairpins and decently long 'straight aways.' Top speeds on the straights approach 115mph in the Evo. It takes about an hour to get to CORE from Downtown Denver. There's no cost to come to the park, but if you want to drive (don't get any ideas...I mean drive your own cars
), its $20 for the day. CORE also has obstacle courses, mud pits, steep inclines, etc. for jeeps, and a smaller track for quads and dirt buggies. If you want to drive your car out there as well, there aren't roll-cage requirements, just need to have a helmet and sign the waiver. If you bring your DD out there, please keep your driving within reason, as I've seen cars roll, catch big air and damage radiators, etc. For any of you involved in the Rally-x scene, CORE also hosts a few SCCA rally-x events every year, and that's a good safe place to play as well. www.coloradooffroadextreme.com
So, why the announcement in the motorsports forum...well, if you're able to make the trek out to CORE, I'm happy to sling you around the track for a couple of laps as well. I'll be bringing an extra helmet with me (size Large). Bring cameras or video cameras if you've got 'em...I'm trying to get as much footage as I can. There's no food/beverages available on site, but there's a gas station in Deer Trail, so if its hot, make sure to bring enough to drink.
If you're thinking of going, please let me know and I'll get you my contact info. I'm guessing we'll be out there most of the afternoon. Also, probably a good idea to give me a call on Sunday before you hop in your car to check to make sure we're still out there and that we haven't run out of gas...I only get 3mpg out there. E85 donations happily accepted!
Directions to CORE are as follows:
Located approximately 60 miles east of Denver on I-70. Take I-70 east to the Deer Trail exit. Turn right off the off ramp onto Cedar Street. Take Cedar street until it ends where it T's with 1st Ave. Turn left/east onto 1st Avenue, which becomes the service road for I-70 proceed down the Service road just over 5 miles to the second road that passes under I-70. Turn left onto that road and CORE is the first entrance on the right after you pass under the interstate.
Hope to see some of you out there!
Dave

Well, I was a bit bummed at the turnout, but for those who didn't make it, here's a teaser of what you missed:

I might be headed out next weekend too. If you're interested in checking it out, please PM me and I'll get you contact info.
